Alberta Bible college contacts police about abuse

THREE HILLS, Alberta (AP) — A Bible college in western Canada said Saturday it has contacted the police over sexual abuse allegations that date back several decades.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson Doris Stapleton said Saturday it was her understanding that one person has come forward alleging abuse at the Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta.

"There has been an allegation of an historic sexual assault," Stapleton said.

Police are only in the early stages of determining whether an investigation is necessary, she said

On its website, the institute said the allegations were made by people connected with the college, but added those involved are no longer there.

The statement said the college brought a file containing the allegations to the and has assured RCMP investigators of its full co-operation.

Prairie Bible Institute was founded in 1922, when its founder, L.E. Maxwell, taught the Bible to eight local farm children. It later grew to include a ministry for mission preparation, a technical college and an aviation school.

The statement does not specify who the allegations have been made against.

Mark L. Maxwell, the college's president and the grandson of its founder, said his goal in dealing with the allegations is to be "open and accessible.

"In partnership with our students, faculty, staff and alumni, our objective is to provide a school environment that is healthy and vibrant, giving life to all who come our way," Maxwell says in the statement.

Prairie Bible Institute boasts 16,000 alumni in 114 countries.

Prairie Bible Institute said in an email Saturday that Maxwell wouldn't be available to speak about the investigation until Monday.

Only 17 comments! If this were a Catholic school then there would be well over 1700 comments. I guess that I have been right all along. When a protestant decides to post a comment about child abuse in the Catholic Church it is out of hate for the Catholic Church and not out of concern for any of the victims. How else do you explain the total lack of concern and posted comments regarding the sexual abuse of protestant students.

      Shameful!

Maybe you should wait until proof comes out and victims make a report. Its a little too early to judge at this point. Unless you don't believe in "innocent until proven guilty."

NO SURPRISE. THE WORLD HAS CHANGED DRASTICALLY-- AND we must now rectify all these damages done to people. I am very glad the trouble has been now reported. I urge anyone to report any problems like this immediately-- DO NOT wait for years to go by whether it is a sexual misconduct, or, a murder, or, a robbery.

In the wake of Penn States recent "inhouse disclosures",it seems many other sexual indiscretions are forthcoming from institutions across the country... I guess we should home-school our children,as well as preach their sunday sermons

Most home schoolers are religious nuts. And that's where all this started.

Why homeschool when most of the abuse takes place in the home. By parents or other family members.

Just goes to show how religion needs to clean up it's own house before the stick their noses in everyone else's lives. All said I have never:

      Molested a child
      Hired an illegal prostitute
      Laundered funds
      Used an illegal drug
Never smoked and only drink on holidays

And I don't have a religious bone in my body. I guess what I'm saying is I don't need any kind of crutch. Do the "Christians" have anything smart to say now?
      • truthisoutthere 6 mths ago
ummm, Jesus is NOT a ''religion'',...He actually was against traditions of Pharisees as Saducees and called them brute of vipers. So before you say something about Christians think and research.

Aok: self-righteousness is a sin. Reread your post.
      • discord71 6 mths ago
Aok, just because you refuse to acknowledge that the self held morals you profess to have were actually taught to you and to man by his creator doesn't make it any less so. Jesus came to save those who know they're not perfect before God. People do bad things, Jesus or no Jesus in their life...

So many people believing in a God and an afterlife, yet all are afraid of dying. One would
think that believers would not grieve over departed relatives etc., since their not really
dead, but living the good life somewhere else.

Atheists: Where do YOUR moral compunctions originate? Can't be from "Nature". Nature rewards the male animals who rape as many females as possible, kill their rival's children, steal mates, steal food, etc. You as an atheist think you are just another animal, right? So where does your superior morality come from? Think about it. I'll tell you. It comes from the Creator of your immortal human spirit. Don't believe it's immortal? Investigate near death experiences. Now how does materialism explain such a thing? Or explain scientifically unexplainable miracles? The only way it can is by a lot of hemming and hawing, ignoring evidence, stating that "It's not repeatable/falsifiable/anecdotal/whatever". You keep to whistling in the dark. I'll cling to my God, thank you, and pray for you while I'm at it. You'll thank me later.
      • Cassandra 6 mths ago
Oh get over yourself dear. I've always wondered why people who profess to
believe in an afterlife are so afraid of dying.
      • discord71 6 mths ago
Afraid of dying? The resurrection belief is not based in fear, but in joy. Frankly, I'm surprised atheists keep their minds closed when it comes to the notion of life being given by a higher power we know and call on as God? It's interesting you'll consider ANY other theory, except the possibility of God. So, what is it you're afraid of?
      • real truth 6 mths ago
Mandan, morals absolutely come from nature. Humans are the only species that kill for pleasure, specifically religious people,so I'd rather be compared to animal.

Morals come from empathy, sympathy, logic, reason and experience.
        Wanna argue this point?
Let's see how good you are.

Pnd the rest of your post is pure nonsense, clearly from a paranoid perspective.

And Discord71,this is yet another feeble attempt at trying to understand an Atheist. Why not just ask instead of assuming and looking like a fool?
        Get this straight....
Religious people are close minded. Atheists are open minded.

Do you even know what these phrases mean,or are you just throwing them around?
You have all the answers, therefore your mind is closed to any other possibilities.
We have very few answers, therefore our minds are open to all kinds of possibilities.

Gods are fictitious characters in stories with no evidence to back up their existence.
That's one of many reasons why we don't believe, and not because we're 'afraid' to believe.
        You're afraid not to.

Why do religious people specifically go out of your way to think backwards?

"But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

Gee an "allegation" surfaces from a remote Canadian Bible college in western Canada from decades ago and Yahoo thinks it should be published as headliner on a Sunday morning. All the Church haters feel good about themselves now staying home, shopping, or attending sporting events. Gotta love Yahoos Sunday religious articles.
      • 'Tis True 6 mths ago
What is so special about Sunday? You mean it should be censored until a Tuesday, maybe? But that would offend us Tuesidians.

A religious institution involved in abuse, molestation &/or rape????
      -What a surprise!!!
      They should ALL be investigated!!!
AND their TAX Free status REMOVED!!
Why do we subsidize supersticious dribble for the uneducated & weakminded??? (NOT to mention the implicit subsidy of the rape of small children!)
