Alberta parents say pet husky that killed their newborn baby was trained

Folks, please don't leave a baby alone with ANY dog, ever.

There are NO dogs that can be trained to the point where they can be trusted to be left alone with an infant or small child. None.

People are SO freaking stupid about dogs. Especially their own.

NO baby or young child should ever be left alone with ANY animal. They must have missed that point in all the training.

Now, where was the baby when it got attacked??Who was watching it?

Trained, sure...but what kind of toys did the dog play with? Soft ones? ...that Squeaked when chewed on? People often allow their dogs soft stuffed animals that make noises when chewed on...high pitched noises. Nothing wrong with that, but the noises are a lot like the ones little babies make. And dogs playing with soft toys often shake them when playing.

I trust my two dogs. But with a child in the house, if I left the child alone in a room, the dogs would be shut up in another room because they ARE DOGS. When I babysat, I didn't leave the toddler in the room with his family dog if I had to go to the bathroom. The dog went downstairs or in another gated room while I wasn't in the room.

Huskys are great dogs. My oldest is part husky. He is a gentle giant as he also has Newfoundland in him...but once again he is a dog. And the instinct is there to kill small animals. My dog loves kids but never will he be left alone with a young child. He has never hurt a cat, kitten, another dog (unless it was aggressive towards one of my children) nor children, but the possibility is there and it isn't worth taking a chance.

I introduced my kids to the dog I had when I brought the kids home. But the dog was in a separate room when I ran to the bathroom or hung out clothes or cooked dinner. If I was doing something where I could not keep an eye on both the child and the dog, the dog was removed from the room.

THE DOG OWNERS FAILED RULE #1. Never leave a dog, or any animal alone with a new born baby or small child. Totally irresponsible period.

When I brought my baby home I had two cats. I trusted them completely but I would never leave my baby ALONE regardless of the situation. The cats were wonderful with him and very protective, but the responsibility for protecting him is MINE and I made sure I did that.

Some people are too stupid to be parents. Dogs, no matter how well behaved or trained they are, are still driven by their instincts FIRST. Most people are oblivious to the warning signs and misinterpret the signs of a stressed animal. I'd be interested to hear the rest of the story.

Never leave a newborn alone with a pet - no matter how much you trust it. You have to carefully watch how the dog/cat/hamster interacts with the child to even have a clue if having the pet around the child is a good idea. 2 days?? No way is this enough time to #$%$ how a dog will react. These dimwits are the kind of idiots who always say, "my dog will never bite anyone."

When i read the comments under this story I understand how this could happen and I wonder why it doesn't happen more often. No dog should ever be left alone with a newborn baby, ever. Dogs have teeth. They are animals. Babies are fragile. Even if the dog wanted to play with the baby it could easily kill it. Huskies are hunters by nature. A crying baby is going to sound like an animal. Honestly people.

The bottom line here is the dog shouldn't have been alone with the baby. I don't care what breed it is. An animal is still an animal and you can't read their minds! I'm an animal lover with 2 dogs but never left them alone with my grandchildren when they were babies. Some people are just too careless and don't think about what could happen. God bless that baby and the family also because they have to live with this grief.

Sigh. Another stupid dog owner giving dogs a bad name. Unfortunately they paid for their stupidity with their baby's life. No additional punishment needed. The dog should not be destroyed unless the owners want it. What a terrible lesson to learn. To a dog, a baby is just a squeaky toy

People seem to forget that dogs are animals.

Dogs and babies done mix, parents should never have lift him alone. Where was baby and the dog.

I would never let an animal of that size and potential around a baby--trained or untrained. It's best to error on the side of safety.

My wife had dog for years that started getting a nasty attitude towards people and became aggressive. As soon as she found out she was having a baby, that dog was gone. Same thing happened to me a few years later.

We are animal lovers and have pets in our house, but we would NEVER allow a pet to be alone with a baby or small child. To a dog, a baby is a toy. Anyone who has been around a dog knows this. It is sad that the dog will suffer for the stupidity of the owners. We have a Yorkie, adorable and playful. There is no way I would allow him around a baby because to him everything is a chew toy.

If these people took classes on how to bring a new baby into a dog home, the lessons obviously didn't register. It can be a risk to have a dog in the home until children are much more grown up, unless it's a teacup breed that can't jump up except for maybe a few inches off the floor.
