Alec Baldwin kicked off LA flight for playing game

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A flight attendant was the subject of a Twitter tirade from Alec Baldwin after the actor was booted from a plane at Los Angeles International Airport for playing a word game on his cell phone as the plane was about to depart for New York.

The "30 Rock" actor was playing a game called "Words with Friends" while the plane idled at a gate Tuesday, said Baldwin's spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik.

"He loves 'Words with Friends' so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it," said Hiltzik, who added that Baldwin boarded another American Airlines flight to New York.

Baldwin, a prolific Twitter user, took to the social media site to vent, saying a "flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing Words With Friends while we sat at the gate, not moving."

Baldwin tweeted that it would be his last flight with American, despite the fact that they show "30 Rock" for in-flight entertainment.

He mocked American Airlines flight attendants on Twitter, saying the airline is "where Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950's find jobs as flight attendants."

It wasn't clear if passengers had been asked to turn off their cellphones, which is typical before a flight backs away from the terminal.

American Airlines spokesman Ed Martelle declined comment, citing customer privacy concerns.

Airport police Sgt. Belinda Nettles said officers did not respond to the incident.

Baldwin called "Words With Friends" an "addicting" game. Players compete online to score the most points by building words with tiles on a Scrabble-like game board.

Baldwin plays the role of executive Jack Donaghy on "30 Rock" and played an amorous ex-husband to Meryl Streep in the 2009 romantic comedy "It's Complicated."

I'm actually totally for celebrities being held to the same standards as everyone else. Athletes watch out, cause you're next.

You think this doesn't happen? If anything they are held to higher standards. NFL Players get suspended for entire seasons, in one case, for merely being a suspect in criminal activity. Others get a DUI, suspended 4 games, lose hundreds of thousands of dollars. None of these involve their actual job, BTW. I know it wouldn't cost me that much if it happened. I hate to sound like I'm defending, but they do get punished even more harshly than the general public now.

i agree with you Daniel, the problem IS, the media, and people put actors/actresses, athletes on a platform way above us normal folks, and when they do things that normal people do, it's OMG they did WHAT?, putting them as role models for their children, and themselves, forgetting that they are nothing more than a person that has a career that puts them on T.V. and makes more than you and I can dream about. But shed that and you have a regular person doing regular things like flipping off the jerk who cut you off, going through a drive thru where they forget your food..you know normal stuff, but it becomes "News" because it just so happen to be a "Celebrity". These people don't possess super human powers, can't heal anyone, nor the person I pray to everyday, so why on earth would i hold them to a standard that's set aside for only the good Lord above.

Yeah, Alec, it's called FAA regulations. Doors closed, your crap gets turned off. It's the way it works for us common folk.
      • Daniel 5 mths ago
Then maybe they shouldn't close the doors until they can actually leave. Not to mention it should be on them to upgrade the technology. If small electronics can disrupt plane equipment, then the plane has bad equipment. They need to worry about that before taking my soda away at the checkpoint.

Daniel maybe Alex could just follow the same rules that apply to us all. His littlle tirade on twiiter really makes him look makes me think he probably go tossed for being rude and obnoxious when told to turn off his cell phome and stop playing his stupid game.

Alec Baldwin wants to act like a spoiled child, throwing a hissy fit all over the internet about flight attendants trying to do their jobs? How about this, Baldwin: turn off the game and act like an adult. Do what they ask of you on flights because they know better than you do about the safety of the other passengers and they don't have to put up with a pompous asshat who can't follow instructions.
      • Amanda 5 mths ago
Asshat is definitely fitting in this situation. Made me smile.

"Please turn all electronic devices to the off position once the doors to the airplane close and remain so until the captain says otherwise."
      End of story.

He's too ignorant to realize that it applies to him as well. After all, he is allegedly an "actor."
      • man 5 mths ago
Unfortunately, most of the people posting comments here probably NEVER fly and have no clue about this rule.
      • Diane 5 mths ago
Its important to all passengers to abide by the rules for the safety of everyone and we all know he knows this. Any excuse is just not acceptable. He was definitely in the wrong and should appologize to the airline for his bahavior not the other way around.

I thought he was going to leave the U.S. for Europe if Bush got re-elected in 2004. Well, Alec we are still waiting, you overpaid, talentless hack.
    • A Yahoo! User  •  5 mths ago
He should have been on the plane to Canada, as he promised he would move there if Bush was elected....
    • Moon Pi  •  5 mths ago
On TMZ, it says he threw a fit because they told him to turn it off. He went and slammed the bathroom door so loud that it scared people. THAT is why he was thrown off the flight. What a big baby.

Baldwin a egotistic jerk, should know not to argue with flight attendant when he or she tells you to turn something off.The goof says hes addicted to his game,so this makes him special in his eyes.Next time he should hire a limo, then he can play with himself in the back seat all he wants !
