Amanda Knox Found Guilty of Murder, Again

Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were found guilty of murder in the third trial in Italy over the death of Knox's roommate, Meredith Kercher. Knox, who is currently in Seattle, and Sollecito have already appealed their 2009 convictions twice. 

According to ABC News, Italian law doesn't require either Knox nor Sollecito to be present while the verdict was read. Sollecito is in Italy, so his passport will be revoked now that the guilty verdict came down, but he is not yet under arrest. It's not quite clear what will happen next for Knox. Knox's sentence was increased to 28 years, while Sollecito's original 25-year sentence was upheld. 

Once the highest court reviews and affirms the verdict today, the extradition process to bring Knox back to Italy could begin. It's extremely likely that the supreme court there will affirm that verdict, in part because the same court previously asked an Italian appeals court to review Knox's acquittal in the first place. Knox and Sollecito spent nearly four years in jail before their original convictions were overturned in 2011, but now that she's out of the country, they may find it difficult to bring back to serve her time. Even if she isn't extradited, it's possibly she may never be able to leave the United States again, without fear of arrest.
