Amanda Knox Freed by Appeals Court; Four Years of Catchup

    Found Not Guilty of Murder

The Perugia court hearing Amanda Knox's appeal of her conviction for murdering roommate Meredith Kercher four years ago issued its verdict today: Amanda Knox is free, her murder conviction and 26-year sentence reversed. Her co-defendant Rafaelle Sollecito was also freed by today's decision.

Knox was found guilty of false accusation against Patrick Lumumba and sentenced three years and required to pay 22,000 euros. She has already served more than three years so will be allowed to leave the country immediately.

The DNA evidence that was the cornerstone of the prosecution's case was discredited during the appeal by court-appointed experts.

Freedom for Knox is bittersweet as evident from her closing plea to the court.

"I've lost a friend in the worst, most brutal, most inexplicable way possible," she said. "I'm paying with my life for things that I didn't do."

Winning her appeal will not erase the trauma of her experience. Nor will it make up for the time she lost. What did Knox miss during her four years in jail?

    * Four birthdays. Her family plans to celebrate every one.

    * Acquiring the freedoms that come with legal adulthood. Knox passed her 21st birthday behind bars and has been there for three years since.

    * Completing her education and graduating from college. Members of her class who went on to graduate school would have completed their studies this year.

    * The dynamic 2008 election and the Obama presidency.

    * The emergence of the Tea Party as a political force in the United States.

    * At the movies: the final three Harry Potter movies, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," Parts 1 and 2; she missed all three movies in the "Twilight" series; "Inception;" Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland;" "TRON: Legacy;" "Julie and Julia"; "The Princess and the Frog;" "Avatar;" "Up;" "The Dark Knight;" "Iron Man;" "Slumdog Millionaire;" and many more.

    * On TV: "The Sarah Jane Adventures," "Greek," "Chuck," "Mad Men," "Glee," "Running Wilde," "Pretty Little Liars," "Person of Interest," "Terra Nova," "Modern Family," "Cougar Town," "The Mentalist," "True Blood," "Life on Mars," "Hellcats," "Nikita," "Hawaii 5-0," "Raising Hope," "My Generation," and "Outsourced."

Knox will return home to an experience void. Undoubtedly some of her friends at home will have changed considerably during her absence, perhaps gotten engaged or married, or moved from one relationship to another, from one job to another, one school to another. They will have met new friends and made new connections while Knox's life stagnated. They will have shared a common cultural experience as they watched the news, went to movies, and lived through the four years she withered in jail. Amanda Knox will be playing catch-up for a long time.

The media said that Amanda Knox was freed today on the same day O.J. Simpson was found not guilty of killing his Ex-wife and her escort boyfriend. I remember reading that some people thought that a homosexual boyfriend of the guy O.J. ex-wife was dating killed both of them. Due to the violence in that crime. According to some statistics the most violent crimes are commited by homosexuals. Maybe the guy that killed that Kirschner girl was AC/DC. Who knows? There was supposed to have been alot of blood in the room. The media also lies.

      stupid useless article

She may be a liar, immoral, stupid, etc. but there is no hard evidence showing that she and her boyfriend killed her roommate. That's enough! She is not guilty of homicide.

At least she didn't miss anything worth while on TV.

Glad to see justice finally got real.. I never doubted her innocence.. Now get the hell of out Italy.. quick!

How does anyone here know if she's guilty or not? Some experts.
      • Brian 7 mths ago
Well, experts have said she isn't guilty. I think we have to settle for that because we'll never know what she, or the experts know.
      • Brian 7 mths ago
If experts can't be involved in deciding a verdict and we can't magically transport to witness the crime happen in real time, what other choice do we have?
      • A Yahoo! User 7 mths ago
That is exactly the point. How does anyone know she is guilty? We don't. Jury decided they didn't have enough evidence to convict her. She walks. You don't have to prove that somebody didn't do the crime. You have to prove that they did do it. And they could not prove she did.

Well... If she did not commit a crime of murder, I'm happy for her.

Guilty as he*l. Perhaps she, Casey Anthony and OJ can meet up in hell when they die.
Those copycat Europeans have been watching to much American television. They had to do a copy of the casey Anthony trial.
Anyone who feels that any one of the three is innocent please check yourself into the closest psyco ward. Sickening.
      • Just Ducky 7 mths ago
You know this how? You self-appointed judge and executioner--you were neither a witness nor on the jury. The psycho ward is your bedroom. Shut up.

You are right. You are the wise one of the world. Please forgive me . Thank you for your unadulterated stupidity. Amen.

I'm sure after being at the hands of idiots for over 3 years, the last thing she wants to do is learn about a group of idiots in washington, or watch new sitcoms.
    • Ell  •  7 mths ago
I never believed her to be guilty, so I'm glad she's acquitted--finally! Like someone else said, now she'll be about the business of selling her story for a well deserved profit.
    • yawnburp  •  7 mths ago
I mean East Coast.....although if I misspell it, I might throw her off the path. LOL
    • yawnburp  •  7 mths ago
...hunt down us 'troll haters' and do what she do best.....hope she don't have any connections to the East Cost....LOL
    • Cj Brock  •  7 mths ago
Yeah, I'm sure seeing catching up on movies and TV is high on her list of things to do. Seriously? Glee and Twilight, so much more important than enjoying freedom.
      • Carol 7 mths ago
It's not about having fun seeing movies and tv. It's about the cultural divide she will face having been so far removed from the experiences of her friends and family.
    • Old Horse  •  7 mths ago
Actually, this is a windfall for The Fox. I know four years in an Italian prison is no picnic, but she looks healthy. Now she'll get down to the business of a book deal, the lecture circuit, the interview circuit, the talk show circuit, etc. After interest in this story dies off in a couple of years, she will have made enough money to never have to work another day in her life, even after attorney and court fees.
      • A Yahoo! User 7 mths ago
I doubt very seriously she looks at it as a windfall.
    • Kathy  •  7 mths ago
Glad she is going home.Hope she can rebuild her life after all this. The jury made the right decision in this case. Too bad Casey's jury didn't have enough sense to put her on Death Row!
    • Christian  •  7 mths ago
I'm glad she has been released and will be coming home. I have thought she wasn't guilty and neither was her boyfriend and its sad she lost 4 years of her life over this . I hope she can start over. I do feel very sorry for the victim's family . I know they think she did it and are I hope the truth does come out and the right person is punished for this crime and that her family has closure . Welcome home Amanda .
    • Greg  •  7 mths ago
well, well, foxy knoxy , her well heeled parents and a PR spin machine beyond compare have defeated justice and let this little murderess walk. another reminder that the criminal defense bar is decicated to getting an aqcuittal, no matter how guilty their client. and they were able to bamboozle some idiot judges in Italy to go along. did i hear the possibility of a bribe? no, of course not! if the kirchner family took the law into their own hands, one could hardly blame them. if i were on a jury, i'd give them a medal. and her sleeazy boyfiernd also walks. and as always, the black guy with a mediocre attorney pays and pays and pays. as the immortal ozzie myers said when indicted in the abscam scandal many years ago, "money talks and #$%$ walks" nowhere more true than here.

The girl they killed misses all of life.
    • The Smellys  •  7 mths ago
YAY! I have always believed in her innocence! Bring that young lady back home to USA soil! I am so glad she was acquitted. The Italian police did shotty work and needed to blame an American for this crime. I hope she's smart enough to never go back to Italy, ever!
