    Amanda Knox lawyer appeals slander conviction

    SEATTLE (AP) — Amanda Knox's Italian lawyer has filed an appeal of her slander conviction in Italy, a Knox family spokesman in Seattle said Monday.

    In October, an Italian appeals court overturned the young Seattle woman's murder conviction in the 2007 death of her British roommate in Perugia. But the same court upheld Knox's conviction for slander — for falsely accusing bar owner Diya "Patrick" Lumumba of involvement in the slaying.

    Lumumba was freed after two weeks in prison for lack of evidence.

    Knox later said she was "manipulated" during her lengthy police interrogation.

    An appeal of the slander conviction was filed Monday, Knox family spokesman Dave Marriott confirmed. He doesn't know when the Italian court might consider it.

    Knox returned to Seattle after her murder conviction was overturned. The former exchange student had been in custody since 2007.

    An Italian judge set Knox's sentence for slander at three years, which was less than the time she spent in prison. That meant she could leave Italy.

    In its ruling last fall, the Italian appeals court also acquitted Knox's then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, in the murder of Meredith Kercher.

    A third defendant, Ivory Coast-born drifter Rudy Guede, was convicted in a separate trial of sexually assaulting and stabbing Kercher. His 16-year prison sentence — reduced on appeal from an initial 30 years — was upheld by Italy's highest court in 2010.

    In a lengthy court document explaining the ruling that cleared Knox and Sollecito, presiding appeals court Judge Claudio Pratillo Hellmann wrote that Knox implicated Lumumba after hours of intense police questioning because "she was convinced that was what the police wanted her to do; to name a guilty person."

        Oh please !!! You are obviously starting to get demetia, Oh yeahhhhh just because she was interrogated by a team of cops gives her a GOOD reason to BLAME and INNOCENT BLACK MAN of murder!!!!! Are you F'n stupid or what!!! So would be OK with you if someone BLAMMED YOU in a murder you did not commit because they were being interrogated by a team of cops.       How come Amanda can't sue for slander. She was wrongfully accused and held for years in prison for something she did not do.

      I am so glad that she is finally free! When you are in a foreign country you can't just pretend in your mind your still in the U.S. There are probably a lot more young Americans in foreign jails with desperate parents that don't get the press and attention this case got. I feel for them. Short of a child's death, serious illness, or paralysis, nothing could be more painful than your kid wasting away in some foreign prison for something they didn't do. Congratulations to Amanda's family who stood behind her every step of the way.

      Anyone who saw the pictures of that little psychopath smiling during the trial would be quite naive to think she is anything but guilty. Falsely accusing someone of a crime and causing them to be jailed is one of the lowest acts any person can do. She should still be in prison.

      Here we go again with this devil looking w h o r e !!! Does she think she's going to get away with lying again!! She lied under interrogation, had a innocent man sit in jail, accused him of hearing Lumumba kill Merideth and now she wants to appeal !!! #$%$ If this doesnt say that she IS guilty then I dont know what else will.       She should let it go, she is out of jail, was able to return home, making a ton of money, needs to move on, put this behind her, she could have ended up serving most of her life in jail, she could have had spoken up before in court, seems she made up lies to protect herself. She is a free bird, let it go and move on.
