AMAs 2015: One Direction Win Artist Of The Year And Give A ‘Perfect’ Performance

As if watching Justin Bieber dance the night away while someone poured a bucket of water over his head wasn’t enough to be getting on with at the American Music Awards, we also got treated to a pretty ruddy ‘Perfect’ performance from One Direction.

The boys also picked up two awards on the night, nabbing Best Pop/Rock Group for the third year in a row AND being crowned Artist of the Year for the second year in a row.

Have they even got room on that shelf in their loo for these? If not, we’d be more than happy to look after the awards for them. No, of COURSE we wouldn’t use it to practise our own acceptance speech. Let’s move on.

Picking up their Best Group award, the boys thanked you lovely lot for all your love and dedication, with Nialler saying: “Wow. To say that we have won this award for three years on the bounce is a pretty incredible thing to be able to say. It’s as simple as this: we won’t be able to do it without our fans and all the votes that they’ve done for us.

“It’s absolutely incredible that we’ve done this again. We love you very much, thank you.”

With Harry echoing Nialler’s thoughts, it was Louis and Liam’s turn to take to the mic when they collected the Artist of the Year award, with Lou saying: “Wow, this is absolutely incredible to receive this award now two years in a row. Thank you so much.

“This is a testament to how incredible our fans are. You’ve been great to us this year so thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Liam then added: “We honestly can’t believe we get to win awards like this. We just want to thank everybody that’s helped us over the last five years. Obviously we’ve going on a little break now, we’re going to spend time with our families, it’s gonna be amazing. I wanna thank our families too.”

Then, of course, was their performance which was so good, we’ve actually forgotten how to write words to describe it. HERE:

Stick a fork in us, we’re done.

Of course, we can’t leave without discussing the boys’ outfits. Here are our favourite bits in bullet point form:

  • Liam’s suede waistcoat that’s probably as soft as his soul (also the fact that his quiff is practically the same height as the award)

  • Louis going for a casual look with a patterned tee on the red carpet but still looking more appealing than a Sunday carvery

  • Niall raiding our wardrobe for that sheer blouse of dreams. More of this please, Nialler.

  • Harry wearing a yellow bow tie and subtly auditioning for Strictly with some sparkly boots. Everything we never knew we wanted.

We’d also like to take a moment to appreciate the genius creation that is One Direction in suits and the fact that Niall is wearing these glasses a lot now and we’re 100% here for it.

We’re also fully on-board with the revelation that Harry Styles is the only human being on the planet that could totally pull off an outfit that looks like Laura Ashley basically threw up on him. Top marks, Styles.
