'Amazing Spider-Man' footage teased for fans

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "The Amazing Spider-Man" dropped in on hundreds of fans Monday.

Sony Pictures teased the latest incarnation of the web-slinging superhero, which doesn't arrive in U.S. theaters until July 3, at preview events held Monday at movie theaters in 13 cities spanning the globe, including Mexico City, Berlin, Rome, Paris and Moscow, with the cast and filmmakers appearing in Los Angeles, New York, Rio de Janeiro and London.

The event began with the debut of the 3-D full-length "Amazing Spider-Man" trailer, which will hit theaters this weekend and debut online Wednesday. The trailer featured footage of Andrew Garfield as a charmingly awkward Peter Parker being bullied at school, testing out his new web-slinging gadgets and battling the villainous Lizard high above New York.

"I think there are a lot of things from the Spider-Man canon that haven't yet been explored cinematically," said director Marc Webb in Los Angeles. "This movie really starts off with Peter Parker and his parents, which is something we've never really seen before, and I think that was something we were all really interested in exploring as filmmakers."

Garfield, who appeared in New York, said Spider-Man is more than just a character. He's a symbol that was once portrayed by Tobey Maguire and now by himself, and he hoped the next person to play the crime-fighting superhero would be a "half-Hispanic, half African-American actor," referencing the latest incarnation of the character in the comic books.

Emma Stone, who plays love interest Gwen Stacey, told fans in Rio de Janeiro that Stacey and Mary Jane Watson, Parker's girlfriend portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in the previous films, are "polar opposites," while Rhys Ifans said in London that his character, Dr. Curt Connors, who becomes the Lizard, has "a very complex and emotional" link to Parker.

After the cast addressed fans, Webb unveiled extended 2-D footage from the film peppered with music from the Rolling Stones and Coldplay. The scenes included Parker asking Stacey out on a date, Spider-Man humorously blasting a car thief with webs and the one-armed Dr. Connors telling Parker that "your father and I were going to change the lives of millions."

case of sexual battery and libel of Los Angeles Music Award winning transgender singer Bralalalala versus Amazing Spider Man art director David Klassen continues to play out in Orange County court. The case has taken a variety of interesting turns over the past few months since the cross complaint for extortion was dismissed and the appeals court offered leave to amend it later.
After the motion for a protective order against all police evidence was denied in the case, last November of last year a local paper covered the case and received threatening messages from Klassen's attorney. Klassen's attorney also denied making the website of libel to the paper about the transgender singer, despite admitting in court documents it was of her and Klassen's making. In January, Klassen and his co-defendant girlfriend attorney Yolanda Marsili offered a bizarre written one dollar settlement of their cross complaint for extortion and malicious prosecution in an effort to walk away from the case unscathed. The trial judge for the case set a trial date for the case on January 23. However, neither party felt any discovery was completed. On January 30, Bralalalala stated that for a variety of reasons the judge needed to be disqualified. The judge approved case reassignment. The trial date has since been vacated. A number of discovery motions are on calendar. On April 6, the parties are set to appear on those motions. Marsili and Klassen refuse to answer any discovery based on the notion that, "plaintiff is unidentified."
The inital trial judge made clear at a prior hearing that was an unacceptable answer.

Well I spent my childhood in the 60's and 70's reading the comics and waiting for decent big-screen adaptions. Now I'm living to see them re-booted 2 and 3 times! And why do we always have to "start over"? James Bond just kept on going and going...

Why don't we just reboot this every year? Hey, I've got an idea! Why not make something ORIGINAL?!! Wow! No? OK, let's just muddle through yet another Spiderman remake. Yawn.

Yeah there's the Spiderman 2099 comic where the new spidey is 1/2 Hispanic 1/2 Black.

        Ultimate Spider-Man, not Spider-Man 2099

alternate universe, not really "latest incarnation of the character". in the regular comics, it's still peter parker

Typical Hollywood- they cast a redheaded actress (who would have been great as MJ, a red head) as the blond Gwen Stacy. They just can't leave well enough alone.
      • mathew 3 mths ago
you hit the nail on the dam head bro..... that's what i was thinking from the start..emma would make a good MJ.. what tha hell were they thinking..

Have you seen Emma as Gwen Stacy? She looks EXACTLY like Gwen was portrayed in the original comic books. I couldn't believe it when I saw the photos. She is PERFECT for this role.

Why the origin story again? If you didn't even read comics or know much about them you at least saw Spider-man 1,2, or 3 or all of them and know how he becomes you know who. I think they could have easly just continued more stories about the character without the reboot treatment or even a new actor. I like the comment about James Bond movies. They don't ever really reboot them other than having a new actor step in. I think Indiana Jones could also take note from this. OK, we know he eventually gets old and dies. But do we have to see it on screen? Put someone else in as a young to middled aged Indy. Harrison hang it up. Man, Liam Neeson would have actually made a pretty bad A Indy. Or why not do an older Spiderman? Why the younger version with the original all over? Tired Hollywood. Rethink your strategy. Xmen First Class got it right with a reboot within the Xmen universe keeping the continuity.

Spiderman is a white man! #$%$ riders! Stop trying to feign equality. I doubt you will read about a black man saying he looks forward to a white anglo-saxan man playing Shaft. Ease up white people we also deserve to be proud of who we are, dont allow anyone to downplay you. Spawn is a black superhero and there are several other.
      • Uatu 3 mths ago
        Exactly!

What if they made a Marvel movie about The Black Panther, Luke Cage or The Falcon and had white guys playing them?

It's kind of like when they made Heimdall a black man in the "Thor" movie.

There was no reason for it other than that they had to work in a token black character....
    • marieg  •  3 mths ago
there is no need to do the origin all over again. This movie will not do well.

Do we really need a series "reboot" every 5 years?
    • L H  •  3 mths ago
true grit, ocean's eleven, scarface should be called remakes or "retools". amazing spider-man, a cash in.
    • Scott  •  Springfield, Illinois  •  3 mths ago
If they want to relaunch a movie, redo the American version of Godzilla. It was godawful, save for Matthew Broderick. Everything else just left you going "That's it??". Don't redo Spiderman...it was great the first time. All they're doing is dumbing down for money.

Just goes to show that the Hollywood is still willing the take old, "cobbed web" material to make a quick buck, and try to convince us it's something different.
    • TheSaintNY  •  3 mths ago
I will wait for it on netflix! I am not waiting my 15 bucks on a remake.
      • Adam 3 mths ago
Reboot, not a remake. A remake is the same story done over again. This is a completly different story.

This actually would be an amazing film on the big screen

Forget it Jake, it's Spider-Man... It's only a movie! I mean, so what if the Sam Raimi take on the character is the one which nailed the Spidey I first became acquainted with when I was 9 years old? Marvel has done everything possible to trash the character in recent years which only makes Sony think Marvel doesn't care about their flagship property, why should we? There will always be the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko treasures reprinted in book form just as there will always be DVDs of Raimi/Maguire Spider-Man movies, well, the first 2 anyway. I know I will just walk right past any theater showing the latest travesty come early July. Nuts.

I generally like Tobey Maquire and Sam Raimi is the man, but i just didnt like the 3 movies they put out. The first one was cool to see on the big screen, but there is major cheese factor in all 3, part 3 being the worst. Topher Grace as Eddie Brock? WTH?
I see this as the same thing that happened to the Batman franchise. The 90's Batman got more and more stupid to the point that it was painful. Then they rebooted with a darker look and a smidge more realism, i thought it was great.
The Raimi spider man was close, but there were some big things that were not right, he met MaryJane before he met Gwen Stacey? no, the story works better the way it was in the comic books. It looks darker and the action really looks better. Not to mention no more Tobey Maguire "woo-hoo's" everytime he swings on a web.

The sad thing is how bad the Spider-man comics have become. Then there's the stupid play that's a disaster and very bizarre looking. A lot of older comic fans just want the Spider-man comics to fail and they want the movie to fail, too. They are so fed up with reboots and retcons and editors lying to them about the content of their books.

Readers want the comics to fail, so Marvel will just acknowledge how insultingly bad things got. Some want him to be married to Mary Jane again, some don't. Some people (in general) want the movie to fail because it's another 'start over' yet when it was announced the first movie hadn't come out like eight years before it. I know it saves the studio money on the actors, but we've already seen the origin. It was the greatest comic origin of all time, but we've seen it.

      Kind of sad, really.
