Amazing World Atlas helps kids discover the world's continents, countries, and capitals through interactive maps, quizzes, and games. It's an appealing app, but the repetitive nature of the games and the relatively limited information about countries and continents doesn't keep it interesting for long.
Pros
Fun and educational: With its playful graphics, amusing sounds, and entertaining games designed to increase a kid's geography knowledge, Amazing World Atlas provides an entertaining experience that combines playing with learning in a seamless way. The five different games available not only increase a child's knowledge, but also sharpen his or her reflexes and short-term memory.
Interactive map: The atlas map features animals, buildings, and statues, etc. specific to a region, such as the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Spain or a gondola in Italy. When touching these, pop-ups appear onscreen, providing a brief but interesting description of the item.
Playful design: The overall design of the maps and of the flags and mini-games befits the theme of the game and can be quite appealing for children.
Cons
Games become repetitive: The flag matching or country mapping games lose their appeal before long, especially since the same flags and countries keep repeating themselves. This makes the games feel at times more like reflex trainers than knowledge boosters.
Graphics could be improved: On a 7-inch tablet, the interactive world atlas graphics look a bit faded.
Bottom Line
Although somewhat repetitive, Amazing World Atlas can nevertheless be a fun educational game for kids who like geography.
