Amazon’s brand new Fire Phone is tanking on the best sellers list

Latest update makes Amazon’s Fire phone slightly more usable than before

The announcement of Amazon’s Fire Phone was met with a mixed reaction. Many of the innovative features of the device were intriguing, but we questioned whether Amazon was innovating in the right areas. GeekWire has been keeping track of the Fire Phone’s rankings on the Amazon Best Sellers list, and it appears that consumers are also questioning the viability of Amazon’s new hardware.

Since it first debuted on Amazon store, the Fire Phone has fallen from the top spot on the Best Sellers list to 77th on Tuesday afternoon. On Monday morning, the 32GB model of the Fire Phone was still sitting in 49th place, but the drop-off has been rather precipitous already this week.

Of course, this comes with a few caveats — not only is the smartphone not shipping until July 25th, it is still the second best-selling contract phone on Amazon behind Samsung’s popular (and actually available) Galaxy S5.

Until the phone actually launches, it’s impossible to gauge the public reaction, but when comparing the Fire Phone to the Kindle Paperwhite or the Kindle Fire TV, there just doesn’t seem to be the same amount of enthusiasm that a typical Amazon hardware launch would create. With the release of the well-received Galaxy S5 and LG G3 this summer and the impending release of the iPhone 6, consumers are understandably cautious about going all-in before they know their options.
