American Crossroads Comes to Romney's Defense

The super PAC American Crossroads is giving Mitt Romney a helping hand with a new ad, criticizing President Obama on his “misleading” attacks on the presumptive Republican nominee, the group announced on Friday.

The 30-second ad is part of an $9.3 million buy that is going out in nine states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia. Most of the group’s attacks on the president have focused on his record and government spending. This is the first such ad from Crossroads that comes to Romney’s defense.

“What happened to Barack Obama?” the narrator asks. “The press, and even Democrats, say his attacks on Mitt Romney's business record are ‘misleading, unfair and untrue.’”

With high unemployment numbers, the ad says that Obama “can’t run on that record.”

"Barack Obama can't run on his failed record so his whole strategy is trying to put his opponent through the shredder," Crossroads spokesman Jonathan Collegio said in a release. "This ad shows that the glut of his attacks are misleading -- and one only runs ads like that when trying to hide a failed record like his."

Romney is sitting on a heap of campaign money that frees up after he becomes the official Republican nominee. Until that point, groups, like Crossroads, are looking to help Romney with their own attack ads against the president.
