‘American Idol’ & ‘Survivor’ Ratings Steady, ‘Black-ish’ Up, ‘Criminal Minds’ Down As CBS & ABC Tie For Demo Win

It wasn’t a big jump by any measure, but the two unscripted veterans saw a small rise last night after previous dips and some status quo. CBS’ Survivor (2.3/4) was the second-highest-rated show of the night, bopping up 5% from last week, while Fox’s American Idol (1.5/5) got down to a final five for its 14th season and rose 7% from its April 15 show. The history of both Survivor and Idol this season means we could see an adjustment in those demos results later. As of right now, with 9.84 million watching, the Mark Burnett-produced 8 PM series matched its April 15 viewership to have the best total audience result since its Cycle 30 premiere on February 25, which was seen by 10 million. Last night’s result helped CBS top Wednesday in terms of overall viewership with 9.34 million tuning in. Among adults 18-49, the network was tied with ABC with an overall 1.9/6 rating.

Of course, at least in relations to overall eyeballs, part of that was also Criminal Minds (1.9/6) and CSI Cyber (1.5/5) pulling in 9.92 million and 8.25 million viewers to be the No. #1 and No. #4 most watched shows of the night. Among the 18-49s, the former was down 10% from last week to match a series low in early numbers. The freshman latter was even with its April 15 show but up 25% from its April 21 special that aired in Person Of Interest’s usual slot.

Even though it slipped 3% from last week, the highest rated show of last night was once again Modern Family (2.9/9). The rest of ABC’s night was mainly steady with The Middle (1.8/6) and The Goldbergs (2.1/7) down 10% and 5% fro their April 15 airings. Black-ish (2.1/6) rose 11% from its last original of April 8 while Nashville (1.3/4) was up 8%.

On a pivotal episode for the WBTV series heading towards its Season 3 finale of May 13, Arrow (0.9/3) remained even among the key demo last night with last week. However, with an audience of 2.72 million, the dark superhero series was up 10% among viewers on The CW. Lead-out Supernatural (0.7/2) saw a jump of 17% among adults 18-49 from last week. NBC’s only original of the night was The Mysteries of Laura (1.0/4) in the unscripted heavy 8 PM slot. The freshman was up 11% from its last new show of April 1.
