    New Amerinet Executive Briefing Updates the Latest on Healthcare Reform and Accountable Care

    Industry experts and executives share, discuss and help each other navigate through healthcare changes

    Amerinet Inc., a leading national healthcare solutions organization, announces the release of a new executive briefing, “Collective Learning on Healthcare Reform.” The document offers the latest updates and discussion on current and pending reform issues and is a follow up to the “Healthcare Reform and Accountable Care: Where Do We Stand?” executive briefing published earlier this year.     Amerinet engaged The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI) – the organization that brought the concept of accountable care to the forefront of our nation’s dialogue – to lead two interactive webinar sessions this Fall with executive leaders from small community hospitals and integrated-delivery networks. During these gatherings, members learned about current information from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding accountable care organizations (ACOs) and TDI’s thoughts and input on these important trends. Additionally, best practices were shared by Amerinet members Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio, and OSF HealthCare System in Peoria, Ill. To make the discussions and findings available to a broader cross-section of members, Amerinet published the “Collective Learning on Healthcare Reform,” briefing and is planning further updates in the coming months.

    With the huge paradigm shift to value-based payment reform, Craig Westling, managing director, accountable care, TDI, offered guidance to these executive members on how to manage the change to an accountable care model. These considerations included:


    •     Understand the principles of ACOs under the Affordable Care Act

    •     Recognize the key elements of an ACO model

    •     Put the pieces together to become an ACO

    “We are seeing a wait and see attitude from a lot of organizations, which is a normal reaction in the face of change. However, given the magnitude and inevitability of payment reform, it’s too risky to just wait and do nothing. Start planning now. You may not act for another six or 12 months, but you do need a plan,” said Westling.
