Amtrak service suspended between DC, Baltimore
WASHINGTON (AP) — Amtrak is temporarily suspending service between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., because of downed wires.
Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz said officials believe an Amtrak train pulled down wires near the station in Bowie around 9:30 a.m. Thursday. He says Amtrak is working to restore service as quickly as possible. MARC Penn line service, which uses the same tracks, has also been suspended.
Schulz says at least eight Amtrak trains with about 1,600 passengers aboard have pulled into stations. He says two trains were initially stranded in the Bowie area, but one has reached a station and another train with about 150 people aboard should reach a station soon.
The Prince George's County fire department tweeted that paramedics removed a passenger suffering heat exhaustion and a pregnant woman.
