Analysis says no mental health risk with abortion

What total #$%$ Post abortion syndrome is quite real and is a form of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). How do I know? I am a psych nurse and have counseled many, many women who carry the guilt of an abortion and even become suicidal. And this is YEARS after the event. Counseling involves self forgiveness for the most part, but it's a hard thing to move past. God bless these women who have to live with their decision forever.

I hope all you people who chose to kill your babies are haunted by this for the rest of your life! You will pay for your crimes against humanity, trust me you will pay!

Sooo... an extremely premature infant is worth a huge amount of money in medical care to save and treat because it is a human being, but an infant of the same gestational age that is unwanted is just trash for the incinerator. Go figure.

Makes sense. Anti-choicers always like to make absurd claims about the effects of abortion, but any mental health risks must be more connected to spending the rest of your life worrying about being hounded by the morality police.

science is a failure yea sure its done some good things but science doesn't have a answer for everything.

Odd that they didn't discuss the women who have committed suicide due to having aborted their babies...and that they ignored all the women who have had to undergo months of therapy after their abortions...makes one wonder who funded the 'study'...

Oh, please. I would think HAVING an unwanted baby and then resenting the child for 18 years as you raise it, or giving the child up for adoption and feeling guilt and regret (or being ambushed years down the road by the now grown up who says: Why did you abandon me?) are worse for one's sanity than having an abortion before the fetus reaches viability.

Why aren't we endorsing sterilization as the responsible thing to do, anyway? Birth control fails- we know this. Not everyone HAS the wherewithal to parent. If you're addicted to drugs or an alcoholic or already have two children that have been seized by CPS or four that you're not providing for in any way, shape or form- sterilization ought to be encouraged- even rewarded.
If you want to end abortion, support serious birth control for the sexually active adults.

It doesn't matter how many logical, scientific, properly-conducted studies you offer; the anti-choice crowd will still scream that abortion is evil and the woman will be duly punished. Meanwhile they will do everything they can to kill the types of education necessary for the prevention of unwanted pregnancies. They're not a very logical group, so logic doesn't work against them. All we can do is make sure they don't get the chance to put their paws on our rights.

tell that to the 35,000 chinese women forced to have abortions every day. If this is just like being dewormed why do they kick and scream have have to be forced in.

A woman with an unwanted pregnancy (a 21 year dependency by the child and a lifelong commitment) should not have to have the child if she doesn't want it. The rights of the living supersede the unborn.

Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, unless you are a psychopath, you are going to have lingering feelings if you have an abortion. To say that a woman can just terminate something like this and feel nothing is complete BS. Most people get upset when there goldfish die and you are trying to tell me that they don't feel anything about their potential child - wanted or not. Even if you think the abortion is the right choice you will still have to deal with the "what-ifs" for the rest of your life.

this is BS. guilt can cause mental health issues. if you don't feel guilty after having a part of your own body destroyed then something is wrong with you. a human being is not just biological waste, people.

Interesting, I have been in relationships with two women who had previously had abortions, known two others personally and friends with two men who had their children aborted without their oppinion. All of them had permantent scars, feelings of lonliness and major regret. All of them would have not had the abortions if they could go back in time.
Of the two women I was in relationships, one had severe mental issues, Though the abortion cannot take the blame for all of her issues, it definitetly played a role.
