    Anchor Planning Group Changes the Conversation about Executive Search and Human Capital

    Successful first year in business underscores need for innovative, in-depth process changes.

    Anchor Planning Group is coming out of its first year in business with strong growth stemming from its creative and innovative approach to flat-fee executive search and human resources consulting.

    Over the past year, the firm has placed 29 candidates with zero turnover. Anchor's time-to-present for pre-qualified, top tier candidates – not simply presenting candidate resumes from a Web site – is 13.9 days, compared to 30 to 45 days for other search firms. The firm's candidates averaged a talent profile assessment score of 83.3 percent as well.

    In July 2010, Jeffrey A. Wade and his business and life partner, Bert W. Lazar, set out to challenge the status quo in the executive search and human resources marketplace. With over 40 years of combined experience, they strongly disagreed with the standard fees that were being charged by traditional search firms—anywhere from 20 to 40 percent of a candidate's first-year compensation. Wade and Lazar chose to use an all-inclusive flat-fee pricing model, free of hidden fees.

    "It never made sense to me that a company would be charged such a high rate, or that the location of the position could hike fees up 50 percent," said Wade, Anchor's president and chief executive officer. "We're turning the idea of you get what you pay for' on its head by offering more quality for less money. We've saved our clients over $290,000 in fees over the past year—that's an average of $10,000 per client."

    It is not only Anchor's pricing model that makes the firm unique. Anchor takes the time to understand a client's culture, and together they develop a detailed candidate profile. Each search is assigned to a senior consultant and researcher; together they go deep and wide in the specific market to identify and attract the top talent. Before being presented, candidates go through a comprehensive talent assessment profile to determine a potential candidate's strengths and weakness. In addition, each candidate undergoes an in-depth, online, 360 reference process. These assessments are included in the flat-fee pricing model. Anchor also provides an industry-best guarantee: if one of their candidates leaves the organization for any reason within up to one year, including termination, Anchor will conduct a replacement search at no charge.

    Anchor's first-year numbers speak for themselves. The Anchor team has grown from one recruiter to 15 senior consultants and researchers. The firm began with one contract for a hotel management company; today, they have conducted searches for a wide range of positions for some of the most impressive names in hospitality and fine restaurants. They have also entered into the legal, government, non-profit, healthcare and higher education sectors. Recently, the firm won two government contracts with U.S. Housing and Urban Development to provide executive search. "We will continue to explore various market sectors to provide executive search; our human resources consultancy approach was designed to add value to any size organization in any sector," said Wade. In addition, the firm will soon announce a new strategic alliance that will provide Anchor with two international offices as the firm expands globally.
