LUANDA (Reuters) - Angola expects a budget deficit of around 5.5 percent of gross domestic product in 2016 while the economy is forecast to grow 3.3 percent, the finance ministry said on Tuesday. In a statement posted on its website, the department said Finance Minister Armando Manuel presented the figures to parliament on Tuesday, based on assumptions of an oil price of $45 a barrel. The government has already said the economy will grow slower than expected this year, as lower oil revenues hit public spending in Africa's second largest crude exporter. Manuel said the oil sector, which accounts for about 35 percent of GDP, had grown at an average 4 percent over the past four years, while the non-oil sector had expanded by 16 percent. Angola sold its first Eurobond earlier this month, raising $1.5 billion via a 10-year issue with a yield of 9.5 percent, whose proceeds it said would be used to support long-term economic development. Angola's kwanza currency has weakened by more than 20 percent against the dollar this year due to a sharp decline in the price of crude that has hit exports.
