'Angry Birds' cartoon series coming later this year

The Angry Birds continue in their plans for world domination

A year's worth of weekly Angry Birds cartoons are in the works and planned for distribution this fall to "all possible platforms."

The news comes from Nick Dorra, Head of Animation at Angry Birds company Rovio, who spoke at the MIPTV Conference in Cannes on April 1.

Each episode will be a couple of minutes long, but the Birds won't be limited to their smartphone origins, with Dorra targeting "all possible screens" as suitable landing pads.

And what of the promised Angry Birds movie? Rovio hopes to keep its avian antics fresh until at least 2015 when that feature length film is due, further cementing the Finnish group's transformation from game studio to entertainment giant.

It's a path well-traveled by French corp Ankama, whose online games for teens and children are supported by comics, magazines, toys, clothing and fan conventions, and the Nintendo-owned Pokemon Company, with its myriad associated merchandising.
