'Angry Birds' Teases 'Star Wars' Merger on Tumblr

The Angry Birds are headed to a galaxy far, far away, according to a teasing Tumblr posted on Friday.

The Angry Birds Tumblr posted an image above, of a hooded, round figure holding a lightsaber. It was confirmed later Friday by Fast Company that Finnish game maker Rovio Entertainment was partnering its Angry Birds transmedia brand with an even more powerful one: Star Wars.

Fast Company reports there will be a Star Wars/Angry Birds hybrid game released on Oct. 28, and the several toys released before then.

“As casual games grow as a category and mobile devices grow as an interface, it’s going to become more important for us in the future,” Paul Southern, vice president of licensing and consumer products marketing at Lucasfilm, told the publication. “Our partnership with Rovio helped us to understand a little bit more about how they achieved that success.”

The cryptic Tumblr also mentions that there will be something happening at the Times Square Toys 'R Us in New York on Monday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. EST. Rovio has already released extensive Angry Birds merchandise, including toys, apparel and food items.

Rovio just released their newest game Bad Piggies on Sept. 27. It said the game has already been the fastest-selling of any in the Angry Birds franchise, even though no birds are featured in the game.

At first I thought the IRS scandal was leaked to distract from the Benghazi scandal. But that didn't make sense because the IRS scandal is a more obvious abuse of power than the White House lying about the murder of four Americans in Libya. Before I had resolved which scandal was distracting from which, we found out the Department of Justice was spying on The Associated Press -- not to protect national security, but to prevent the AP from scooping the White House. Then, this week, it broke that the Department of Justice was also spying on Fox News for reasons that remain unexplained. ...
