Angry protesters in Brazil burn buses over killing
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Angry residents of a city near Rio de Janeiro have torched four buses to protest the death of a man killed by a bullet on his way to a Good Friday church service.
Protesters in Niteroi blame police for the killing of 21-year old Anderson Santos Silva. They say Silva died while trying to protect his mother and 9-year-old sister from bullets from a gunfight involving police.
Media reports say military police have denied any wrongdoing. They say a stray bullet killed Silva during a clash between police and suspected drug traffickers.
O Globo newspaper is reporting that protesters also set fire to a truck and two cars, along with the four passenger buses.
Silva was buried Saturday.
Police could not be reached for comment.
