'Anonymous' Hackers Group Threat to New York Stock Exchange

Anonymous, the loosely-organized group of computer hackers that has taken credit for many of the world's most visible protests, has threatened to "erase" the New York Stock Exchange from the Internet today.

The streets of downtown Manhattan have been crowded for several weeks now with members of the Occupy Wall Street movement, who say they're protesting corporate greed. Last week an online message purportedly posted by Anonymous said the protest would spread to a hacking attack.

Wall Street shrugged off the threat this morning as the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose more than 250 points at the open.

A threat was first made on Oct. 5, as demonstrators massed on the streets in lower Manhattan. But a YouTube message posted shortly after that said, "Anonymous wouldn't attack NYSE on a HOLIDAY -- it is debatable if Anonymous would ever even attack NYSE."

However, a YouTube video posted on Saturday, using a computer-generated voice, said, "Many people refuse to accept that Operation Invade Wall Street is a reality. ... I am here to clarify that factions of Anonymous are going with the operation. Other factions are opposing it."

The voice, flat and idiomatic, concluded, "Those who are going to be part of the attack have a message to the NYSE: We have you because we don't like you. We are all anonymous. We are all one legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. NYSE, expect those of us who plan to destroy you."

Anonymous has previously taken credit for hacking attacks on Bank of America, Sony's PlayStation network and other companies. It was unclear whether the online threat intended to interfere with stock trading, or do anything to the homepage of NYSE Euronext, the parent company of the stock exchange.

Ray Pellecchia, a spokesman for NYSE Euronext, said, "We don't comment on security." Separately, a source said the exchange was functioning normally.

I wish they had hijacked it in 2008 and stopped my money from vanishing

I would also like to add, you are a complete fool in you participate in any of the DDOS attacks on websites. The FBI has already gone after many who have in the past, and they do have ways of tracking it.

I think it is time they start locking up anyone and everyone who belongs to Anonymous, whether they claim they have a leader or not.

In life it is much easier to destroy than to create.

Can they erase all members of congress and senate?

Instead of going after Wall Street, go after the ones who got billions of bail out money and haven't done one #$%$ thing to help the people from it.

I will agree that Wall Street is part of the problem but the real issue is our politicians. I wish someone would publish a report showing the net worth of politicians when they first went into office versus their current net worth. The large majority that have won multiple terms have much more wealth. Of course most are fairly well off to begin with but that does not explain how they continue to grow their wealth on their yearly saleries. If such a report were published a lot of politicians from both parties would have some explaining to do.

Everyone should post a "Dear Anonymous" asking for a favor that will aid in the struggle against the machine. Here's mine: Dear Anonymous, please hack into Yahoo and fix their Gawd foresaken error prone scripts so we can use this site as originally intended. Power to the people!

As it should be a people should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people.

That would give the government all the reason they need to control the internet. All they have to do is say it is a matter of national security and suddenly we are like China. Don't think it will happen? How many people said that about the rights we have already lost?

Why don't these guys ever hack into things in China, Iran or Russia?

They might succeed in shutting it down temporarily, but "erasing" the whole thing would be almost as hard as trying to "erase" the entire Internet.

Please, when you get done with Wall street, can you erase Washingtown??

For me, that will be un-necessary. My stocks seem to come with a built in self-erasing feature. Sorta like a cell's apoptosis.......LOL

Now to address the more important issue:
Who is hotter? ... Ginger or MaryAnn.

Dear Hackers, Could you erase all three of my credit scores?

Thanks to those of you who point out how many average guys such as myself have their 401(k)s however measly they may be invested mostly in stocks. This is my retirement and I have a 529 for my kid's college. Don't fool yourself into thinking it's only rich guys who would be hurt.
