Another Clue About Who Made the 47% Romney Video

David Corn, the Washington bureau chief for Mother Jones, may have just given us some more insight into the identity of the person who taped Mitt Romney's "47 percent" comments at a fundraiser back in May. During a Reddit AMA, Corn was asked: "You probably can't answer this, but I'd really like to know how you got the tape. Did someone pay $50,000 a plate for the opportunity to tape this just in case Romney said something dumb?" He answered:

I cannot say much about the source of the tape and how s/he came to be in the room. But as far as I can ascertain, it wasn't an opposition hit job. The source realized that s/he would be in the room with a presidential candidate and thought that Romney might just say something interesting enough to deserve recording.

While it's still all wild speculation at this point, Corn's statement might just lend some credence to host Marc Leder's assertion that the video was taken by someone who was in the room to work the party — as our Alex Abad-Santos put it, the "blaming the help" explanation. Corn explains that the source "realized s/he would be in the room with a presidential candidate." Anyone who had been planning to attend a function with Romney wouldn't have "realized" they were going to be in the same room with him. They would have known.

A Redditor had the same idea, writing: "I know you can't respond to this, but it seems pretty obvious that the recording was done by one of the catering staff."
