Another Familiar Face To Appear In Ghostbusters 2016?

You know the drill by now: a new take on a much-loved property makes its way to the big screen, and you can’t turn around with bumping into a new rumour or speculation about what’s in store.

This has without doubt been the case with Paul Feig’s upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot - and, when the internet hasn’t been going nuts debating the pros and cons of the director’s choice of an all-female cast, the intense scrutiny has also led to the reveal of various cameos from players in the original films.

Thus far, almost every surviving key player from the original two Ivan Reitman-directed ‘Ghostbusters’ movies - essentially everyone but the late Harold Ramis and the semi-retired Rick Moranis - has been confirmed to appear in the 2016 film.

Now, there has been further speculation that another certain ‘Ghostbusters’ star might also be back. So before we go any further, we should warn that this may be a spoiler - whilst at the same time emphasising it might also prove false. (Sigh - you see the headaches we endure?)

If in doubt, don’t scroll any further down…

For those of you still with us - reports have surfaced that the ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot will feature arguably the best-loved ghost of the original movies: Slimer.

This rumour broke as the film’s IMDb page was updated to list Slimer among the cast - with ‘The Simpsons’ actor Dan Castellaneta credited as supplying his voice.

Director Feig took to Twitter to debunk this:

Even so, horror news site Bloody Disgusting remain insistent that Slimer will indeed feature in the film (although Castellaneta’s involvement remains dubious).

Never named in the 1984 original, the lime green ‘disgusting blob’ who famously leaves Bill Murray covered in gunk became an instant fan favourite, to the extent that he became a member of the team in spin-off cartoon series ‘The Real Ghostbusters.’

This popularity led to a brief cameo from Slimer in 1989′s ‘Ghostbusters II.’

With or without Slimer, ‘Ghostbusters’ opens July 2016.
