Another Patch Tuesday Patch from Microsoft for Office

In a what is becoming a disturbingly familiar development, Microsoft has issued fixes for problems caused by an update released earlier.

These problems date to one of the updates to Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word in particular, in October 2014. Microsoft says that, after the updates were applied, some users were unable to update fields in Microsoft Word in some scenarios. No more specific information is as yet available on the problem.

The Click-to-Run version of Office 2013 has been updates to build 15.0.4675.1002 to address the problem. The updates for Office MSI users may be found at these links:

According to Microsoft, the update that caused the problem for Word 2013 was KB2889939. What did this update do? "Improves localization in the Kyrgyz and Mongolian language versions to make sure that the meanings are accurate." This particular update was not released, at least not officially, for Word 2010 that month, so there is an inconsistency, even assuming such an update could cause such a problem.

Problems with Microsoft updates have become common. Most recently, Microsoft withdrew an update to Exchange Server 2010.
