Anthony glad he decided against surgery
New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony said he took a "huge risk" when he decided not to haveoffseason shoulder surgery, but is "ecstatic" with his results he has had through rehabbing, ESPNNewYork.com reported.
Anthony said Saturday night he played with a torn rotator cuff and partially torn labrum in his left shoulder late last season.
Instead of having surgery to repair the problem, Anthony opted for intensive rehab.
"I'm ecstatic going from a torn rotator cuff and torn labrum to not needing surgery," Anthony said in Manchester, N.H., on Saturday. "Let me take that back: taking a risk in not taking surgery and letting it heal on its own. I took a huge risk in doing that. It meant I had to put more time in the offseason to do what I had to do to get it right."
Doctors told Anthony that he would have missed the beginning of this season if he had offseason shoulder surgery.
"I would have been out four, five months because of the severity of the tear," he said.
It remains to be seen whether the rehabbing will prevent further problems with the shoulder.
