Anthony Weiner Makes It Official: He's In the Race
In the least surprising move of this political season, former Congressman Anthony Weiner officially threw his hat in the ring to be the Mayor of New York. Weiner made the announcement on Wednesday morning via a YouTube video uploaded to his new AnthonyWeiner4Mayor YouTube channel. How very 21st century.

The video is a standard "I'm fighting middle class" campaign ad, but it does feature a brief appearance by his wife, Huma Abedin, as well as acknowledgement of the underwear-sexting scandal that ended his career in the federal government. Toward the end of the ad, he says:
"Look, I made some big mistakes. And I know I let a lot of people down. ... I hope I get a second chance to work for you."

He also apparently has a 64-point "action plan" to save New York City, if you're into that kind of thing. ("Put a Kindle in Every Backpack"? Okay, we guess.) We'll see if that's enough to challenge the front-runners, like Christine Quinn and Bill de Blasio, who already have a pretty significant head start. Now it's on to the next stage of the political comeback: actually winning some votes. The Democratic primary is September 10.
