Anubis, the resilient dog with no nose, finds compassion in new home
After being found in Cairo, Egypt with his nose cut off, Anubis the dog is finally getting the love he deserves.
Anubis was rescued by Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation and was lovingly brought to his new home in El Paso, Texas in January, thanks to multiple donations and volunteer efforts.

Mashable spoke with Anubis' new owner, Kathy Declet, via email to learn more about his journey.
She explained that while no one knows exactly what caused Anubis to lose his nose, it is believed that while serving as a guard dog for a house and attempting to alert the owners of intruders by barking, the trespassers cut his muzzle off.

Declet said another possible explanation for Anubis' facial injury is that his owners did it. While it is unclear whether or not Anubis was abandoned by his original owners, it is believed he was living on the streets for a while before being rescued.
After seeing a post of Anubis on Facebook, Declet admits she "fell in love" with "his sweet face" and she and her husband submitted a foster application.

Anubis is adjusting very well to his new life. “He is a happy and healthy boy regardless of what has happened to him in the past. He loves people and gives everyone kisses.”
“He eats just fine,” Declet said. “He uses his tongue like a scoop!”
Declet said Anubis wants to know where she is at all times and he even gets up occasionally at night to check on her.
"He is a true inspiration and an example of perseverance. He wanted to live," she said.

Anubis touched so many hearts throughout his journey that a Facebook page was created in his honor to update the many people interested in his rescue.
“We are so so grateful for everybody that was part of bringing Anubis home," Declet said. "We love him, our kids love him, our other animals love him! He is loved and spoiled like any other animal should be."
