For a week, heavy rain fell across the Czech countryside. Rivers burst their banks, flooding farmland. Then the meandering Vltava, which runs through historic Prague, rose to threatening levels, a torrent that is now wreaking havoc in the north and across the border in Germany.

In these AP images, aerial shots show the extent of the damage: Evacuations of the elderly, a zoo under water, flooded highways, a lone cow surrounded by water, police in dinghies.
