APNewsBreak: Miss. man sentenced for Obama threat

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man has been sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for threatening to kill President Barack Obama and to blow up a hospital that refused to do surgery on his wife.

David Williams, 45, of Attala County in north central Mississippi, was arrested in July after University of Mississippi Medical Center officials in Jackson reported that he made the threat during an irate telephone call. He pleaded guilty Aug. 31 to two charges: threatening Obama and using a telephone to threaten to damage a building with explosives. He could have faced up to 15 years in prison.

U.S. District Judge W. Allen Pepper sentenced Williams during a hearing Thursday in Greenville. Williams also was sentenced to three years supervised release after he gets out of prison and ordered to take alcohol and anger management classes. He will get credit for about five months he's been held in jail, said Krisi Allen, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Oxford.

Secret Service agent Ronald McCormick said in a sworn statement filed in court records that Williams called the hospital July 19 to schedule surgery for his wife. Williams was told the hospital wouldn't do the surgery, and he threatened to blow up the hospital and kill Obama, using a racial epithet to describe the president, McCormick's statement said. Williams made the threats during a conversation with hospital operator Alfreda Fairley.

Williams' attorney did not immediately respond to messages Friday.

Jack Mazurak, a hospital spokesman, has said privacy laws prohibit him from disclosing details about Williams' wife's ailments. McCormick's statement said only that Williams' wife went to the hospital for various health problems, but did not say exactly what was wrong with her.

Obama is an idiot and the worst president we have ever had, but there is no reason to threaten the man like this. I don't like his politics at all but for heaven's sake, he was elected fairly and the way to "get rid" of him is to vote him out of office, plain and simple.

The guy who threatened him, is an even bigger idiot. The ballot box is the place to take care of bad politicians like Obama. Threatening any president is just lunacy, and the guy who made the threat SHOULD be locked up. It's not a laughing matter. Threats are not free speech.

Given that 'privacy issues' were the reason why no information was given to readers ( and allow fo numerous misinterpretations), I only have these PERTINENT QUESTIONS ( in lieu of Facts) to present. Why was this woman turned down for surgery? Could it be that even if done, she wouldn't LIVE any longer had it not been done? Did they have Health Insurance? And if the answer to that question is NO, why should others who brought this about to the Forefront ( Including Me; Remember 2009?) have to pay for this Woman's Treatment? Only 30% of Mississippians wanted this HealthCare Law ( and given this man's asinine threats), it's concluded he wasn't among them. So, why are he upset over his OWN ACTIONS? Being presented to him ( as well as others if you rejected the Healthcare Law) is the ability to THINK LONGTERM. Take care, Hercules Adonis Weisenhemer

Listen...Republician, Democrat Whatever.... I'm not a fan of Obama, But still, Its wrong to threaten the life of ANYONE. Especially if you involve a hospital. First and Foremost it is a Sin to kill even a single soul. This is why we have laws... What happened to kindness and Humility in this world...

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. I can understand how he felt about not being to provide medical care for his wife, but he could've done something better than threaten to blow up the hospital and threaten harm to the president. When you think about it, his actions could've put him on the suspected terrorist list but thankfully the judge was probably understanding a gave him a smaller sentence.

It's obvious alot of these post are from individuals who disliked President Obama before he even took office. They're entitled to their feelings. But as Americans we've always adhered to a certain respect and expectiation that our President no matter whom it is will not be subjected to the threat of being harmed. It's not neccessarily respect for the individual holding the office of President but it's respect for the office itself, what it represents to this country and around the world. What most seem to be ignoring is there are laws which were enacted way before President Obama came along which make it a crime to threaten any citizen. Also how can people be so mad about an idea of wanting all Americans to have health care. It would seem that would be a good idea. Maybe the plan could be better or even revised some but what's wrong with wanting all of us to have health coverage? How can people be so cruel to want to deny a fellow human being access to care when needed?

Its sad that he couldn't get help for his wife and i'm sure the call was a the heat of that time but you can't say your going to hurt someone over a phone or to someone its said all the way around . And the system let bonds on house arrest.

What good will it do anyone to keep this man in jail? If he had been able to get health care for his wife, like Obama has, he would not have been upset and made these threats. I think he should be released from jail. He needs to be at home with his wife, if she is still 'alive'.

At least we heard about this. When NDAA goes into effect, the government will legally be allowed to "disappear" anyone who criticizes the government. Thats right folks, your 1st Amendment rights are almost gone.Welcome to the 4th Reich.

Like this guy was actually going to do it?

He must have been distraught with the fact that he couldn't get his wife the required surgery she needed and was angry about the lie he has been told to believe from the bum in office.

Holder must have been brought in on this one and the guy was surely a poor white Mississippi man. No sympathy for that white boy.

Now the family has zero income and that makes it allll better.

If they jailed all the demotard freaks that threatened GWB while he was in office there wouldn't be anyone to vote for Obozo in November.
