New App Aims to Make Splitting the Restaurant Bill Less of a Nightmare

Dash works at more than 25 bars and restaurants in NYC.

Look, everyone wants to spring for dinner with friends instead of hemming and hawing, item by item, over what each person owes. But chances are you simply don't have the wherewithal (especially if you're shirking your work duties to read this blog post).

A new app called Dash, not to be confused with the venerable Kardashian-owned boutique, promises to fix that problem. It recently launched at more than 25 venues throughout Manhattan, and is fully integrated with restaurants' computer systems, meaning users can keep track of their bill while they're ordering.

You can also pay your bill through the app so that you don't have to wait for your server to return with the check or your credit card--doesn't that always seem to be the time of night when they drop the ball, anyway?

This beats squinting over your receipt in a dark bar.

And the most magical part of Dash is the itemized control over bill-splitting. This should be a real crowd-pleaser. The only thing more annoying than crunching the numbers with your table-mates is being the waitress who has to deal with your "put $24.57 on the blue Wells Fargo Card, $36.92 on the MasterCard and $42.07 on the other blue Wells Fargo" spiel.

Dash is currently available at bars and restaurants in the West Village and Lower East Side like Via Tribunali, Barramundi, Los Feliz, Agave and Tammany Hall, as well as Midtown's Opal.

Now all we need is an app that helps get busy bartenders' attention, and dining out will be perfect. We won't hold our breath, though.
