    Apple announces a thinner, lighter and taller iPod touch, available in October

    Apple (AAPL) continues to throw out the punches at its press event in California. The Cupertino-based company on Wednesday unveiled the newest addition to its iPod family — a redesigned iPod touch. The device is super thin, coming in at 6.1mm, and weighs only 88 grams. It is equipped with a dual-core A5 processor, a front-facing FaceTime HD camera and features a 4-inch Retina display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. On the back of the device resides a 5-megapixel 1080p iSight camera with a f/2.4 aperture, a sapphire crystal lens and an LED flash. Apple has also included support for Siri, Bluetooth 4.0, AirPlay mirroring, and a Wii-like bracelet, called “Loop,” for easy holding. The newest iPod touch will be available in a variety of colors — red, blue, yellow, white and black — in October in 32GB and 64GB variations for $299 and $399, respectively. Apple also announced that it will keep its fourth-generation touch on the market with a starting price of $199 for the 16GB model.
