Apple HealthKit In Demand: LA's Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Connects 80,000 Patients

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles has reportedly connected 80,000 patients to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)'s health-tracking software, HealthKit, according to a Bloomberg report. The HealthKit was included on iOS updates beginning last year and plays an integral role in the Apple Watch.

At Cedars-Sinai, patients are automatically opted in to the program, which will help the patients incorporate personal medical information into their patient files. Cedars-Sinai CIO Darren Dworkin said that patients can opt-out by simply not using the software.

HealthKit incorporates more than 900 health and fitness apps and is also used in The Mayo Clinic and Duke University Hospital. In February, Apple CEO Tim Cook cook said that HealthKit would be "profound."

Apple reports earnings following the closing bell this afternoon.
