    Apple iPad 3 due first week of March: report

    Apple’s release of the iPad 3 is just weeks away, according to a new report from John Paczkowski at AllThingsD. The big event will take place in the first week of March, according to sources close to the matter. The timing lines up with earlier rumors, as well as the release of the first two iPad models.

    According to Paczkowski’s sources, the event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, in San Francisco, a common venue for Apple unveilings. There is so far no exact date for the iPad 3 event, nor a release date for the device. No surprise there, as Apple is particularly tight-lipped with such details. (Or any details, for that matter.) The previous two iPad models were released to the public within a week or so after their debut.

    Recent rumors indicate that the iPad 3 (the assumed name for the device) will sport a 2048×1536 resolution Retina display, which is twice the resolution of the iPad 2. The next-generation Apple tablet is also expected to have the more powerful A6 processor. In addition, newly leaked photo of what some believe is an iPad 3 rear shell shows that the device may also have a larger battery, and an upgraded rear camera. An HD-quality front-facing camera is also rumored.

    Of course, nobody outside of Apple’s information fortress knows for sure, but not a single one of these upgrades seems outlandish, as all address areas where the iPad 2 could be improved. We wouldn’t be surprised to see at least a few of these updates to the device, if not all of them.

    Adding credence to the early March announcement, CNet reports that an updated version of iOS 5 (v. 5.1) will arrive on March 9, which would line up nicely with the iPad 3 announcement.

    Apple has, of course, declined to comment on any of this. But given that everything above falls firmly into the realm of possibility, we’ll definitely be penciling in the first week of March on our calendar.

        There are two kinds of people in the world - the kind that think releasing an update once per year is way too fast, and the kind who think it is way too slow. But if they updated every two years, the old product would look jurassic by the time the new one was released. So we're stuck with a yearly update.

        The really frustrating thing is companies like Samsung that seem to release a newer, SLIGHTLY better device every month or two. It means that their latest product is going to be 'better' in some technical ways than the latest Apple product, but the Apple product is going to be more polished.

      ohhh yes the Ipad 3 !!!!finally we will have the change again to spend ludacris amounts of money on a device that doesnt really have anything special other than a apple logo...im amazed that people are looking forward to owning this overpriced tablet

      Life is good if you don't depends too much on electronics in which guarantee happiness at least later in your career. I mean, I really appreciate being exposed from this amazing technology and products from Apple, but I really do not want to be dependable on it (especially associating with Facebook, my goodness). Just stating my humble perspective though...

      Awesome. Apple is a company that makes electronics for revenue. They have the right to use whatever tactic they want to make as much money as they can. Most (not all) of the people on here complaining just do not make enough money to afford these products.

      Wouldn't it be awesome if no stood in line for this product. Just wait another six months, then they will release a new one with technology they have today but don't want to give it all to us at one time.

      Can't wait to get my hands on a product made by Chinese people who work 28 straight hours and 31 cents a day, doing the same thing over and over again, and killing themselves because they are losing the will to live. Sounds an awful lot like slavery. Steve Jobs wasn't what everyone was thinking he was. He was dehumanized with his great products made by Chinese slaves.
