Apple looks to spoil Samsung’s Galaxy S III party
Android fans waiting to get their hands on a Samsung Galaxy S III could be in for a rude awakening later this month. That’s because, as FOSS Patents’s Florian Mueller writes, Apple has added the Galaxy S III to its preliminary injunction against devices that allegedly infringe two of its patents. The first one (U.S. Patent 8,086,604) deals with the type of universal search technology used by Siri, while the second one (U.S. Patent 5,946,647) deals with a system that automatically detects and identifies certain data on a device such as phone numbers, email addresses and hyperlinks. It should be noted that the latter patent is the same one that Apple is using in its effort to get the U.S. International Trade Commission to ban all of HTC’s newest Android devices. Wasn’t it just last month when Apple CEO Tim Cook complained that patent suits were a big “pain in the ass?”
