Though the device’s anticipated launch is still about a year away, a new report suggests Apple is having big problems with the processes involved with manufacturing its upcoming iWatch. Digitimes on Tuesday cited market chatter in reporting that Apple’s upstream supply partners may only be able to accommodate between 30% and 40% of Apple’s expected orders. “The iWatch is built using powder metallurgy technology and then processed by CNC equipment,” Digitimes’ Joseph Tsai wrote. ”Since Apple requires the iWatch be thin and light and still features an elegant design, it has been known that this will pose a great challenge to the device’s chassis suppliers as well as related component makers and back-end process service providers.” According to the report, however, Apple is still expected to launch the iWatch in the second half of 2014 priced between $149 and $229. Inventec and Quanta Computer will reportedly be tasked with building the device.
