Apple’s Retina 5K iMac seems pricey at $2,499 – here’s why it’s really a killer deal
Obviously not everyone can afford to spend $2,500 on a large monitor with a resolution of 4K or higher. But if you do feel like throwing that kind of cash around at a beautiful display, Apple’s new iMac with a Retina 5K display really is a killer deal. We mention this because 9to5Mac on Wednesday flagged an impressive looking LG 4K monitor that measures in at 31 inches and costs the exact same price as the Retina 5K iMac… but it’s also just a monitor and not an all-in-one desktop computer.

Granted, the new LG monitor is slightly bigger at 31 inches versus the 27 inches offered by the Retina 5K iMac. But otherwise it’s just no contest since the iMac also doubles as a personal computer and has an insane resolution of 5210 x 2880 pixels versus the LG monitor’s awesome-but-not-quite-as-impressive resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels. Oh, and not to mention that the Retina 5K iMac features a 3.5GHz Intel i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics, a 1TB fusion drive and Thunderbolt 2 ports.
So basically, if you really feel like throwing down thousands of dollars on a gorgeous monitor, you might as well get the new Retina 5K iMac, which is offering you a lot more bang for your buck than other high-quality 4K monitors out there.
