Apple will start selling fully unlocked SIM-free iPhones in the U.S. on Tuesday
Big news for anyone hoping to buy a full unlocked SIM-free iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus: 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is going to start selling them in the United States starting on Tuesday. Why is this such a big deal? As Gurman writes, “tomorrow’s change means that Apple will sell the latest iPhone models with no SIM-card so that customers can use the phone anywhere in the world on any supported carrier by bringing along their own SIM-card.” In other words, Apple is freeing up the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus so you won’t be locked into one particular carrier.
And here’s another cool thing about this: Gurman is hearing that you’ll be able to pick up these devices both online through Apple’s retail website and through Apple’s physical retail outlets. This means that you should be able to just bring your SIM card to your local Apple Store, have a store employee insert it into an unlocked SIM-free iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, and you’re good to go.
