Apple SVP Eddy Cue: Apple’s best products in 25 years will launch in 2014
In an interview during Re/code’s Code Conference, Apple’s senior vice president Eddy Cue echoed Tim Cook’s earlier references to the company’s product line for 2014, further building up anticipation for the devices Apple will launch in the second half of the year.
“Later this year, we’ve got the best product pipeline that I’ve seen at Apple in my 25 years at Apple,” Cue told Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, without elaborating on what products the company is already working on.
Mossberg said Cue’s statement is rather strong considering that Apple launched widely popular products in the last years, including the iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad and MacBook air. The Apple exec agreed with the reporting adding that he believes the products Apple’s got coming are “great.”
Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine, who joined Cue on stage at the event, said he hadn’t seen these products yet, adding that when he goes there, “they put tarps on everything.”
Cue added that Apple is still very focused on product quality, as it’s “doing a few things and doing them really great,” which is part of Steve Jobs’s legacy for Apple. He also said that Jobs would be “extremely proud” of all the work Apple is doing today and the products the company is building.
Apple will introduce iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 at WWDC 2014 next week, but also some hardware. An analyst with a good track record speculated in a recent note to investors that Apple may introduce cheaper iMac and iPhone 5s versions during the event, but an insider shot down both guesses, without revealing what Apple plans to unveil on Monday.
Later this year, Apple is expected to launch two bigger iPhone 6 models, new iPad models, its first iWatch smartwatch, a new Apple TV model and refresh other Mac lines.
