Applebee's Thinks People Will Pay $375 for a New Year's Eve at Applebee's

The day we have been waiting for is upon us: Applebee's, the chain restaurant where you somehow always run into your high school P.E. teacher when you visit home, has offered up a $375-a-person New Year's Eve "Night to Remember."

There's nothing on the record (but if you have receipts, we'd gladly post them) of someone ever spending close to $400 at Applebee's (it would be difficult— $20 can get you dinner and an appetizer for two people, and the most expensive dish on the menu appears to be a $28 steak), but that's what the chain's Times Square outpost expects people to pay. The Applebee's upgrades, as Marketwatch reports, include stuff like a DJ and open bar:

The party, which starts at 8 p.m. and wraps up at midnight, features an extensive buffet, a “premium” open bar, a house DJ, a dance floor, plus party favors galore. And for those eager to see the ball drop, the restaurant lets patrons “make their way to the streets of Times Square.”

And part of the strategy is also, making people think they're not at Applebee's:

“You wouldn’t know you were at an Applebee’s for that one night,” [Applebee's rep Zane] Tankel says.

Huddling up to (apparently) very rich Applebee's patrons might not seem like the ideal way to spend New Year's Eve, but let's face it: there's an unwritten rule that your New Year's Eve will always have some undertone of terribleness to it. The open bar serving flat vodka tonics is impossible to get into, or there's only one bathroom at that "epic" loft party, or someone's "stunning" roof is just unbearably cold ... you get it. Some more parties you may want to think twice before attending:
