Diego Rivera: Murals for the Museum of Modern Art (November 13 - May 14, New York)
From the Mexican muralist's one-person show for MoMA in 1931, eight ‘portable murals' that Diego Rivera created for the museum will all be on display for the first time in 80 years. The monumental work depicts the Mexican revolution, such as "Agrarian Leader Zapata," as well as paintings of the New York working class during the Great Depression.

Ellsworth Kelly: Prints and Paintings (January 22-April 22, California, USA) 
This retrospective of American artist Ellsworth Kelly, a key contributor to the abstract movement, features more than 100 prints created since 1988 and five paintings illustrative of his geometric shapes and bold vibrant color. The exhibition, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), is organized thematically, exploring the motifs of grids, contrast and curves.

40th Hong Kong Arts Festival (January 28 - March 8, Various venues) 
Acknowledged as the premier event of its kind in Asia, the 40th edition of the Hong Kong festival has lined up 166 performances from 38 ensembles or solo artists including everything from the likes of the Beijing Opera to the Hamburg Ballet.

Cindy Sherman (February 26 - June 11, New York, USA) 
A retrospective of this American contemporary photographer, known for conceptual portraits featuring herself disguised as personas that examine the media and the representation of women. The 180 photographs trace the artist's career from the mid-1970s to the present, including her Untitled Film Stills(1977-80) series, society images and the debut of recent murals. The show is taking place at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), find more information about MOMA via the apps below.

3rd Art Month Sydney (March 1-25, Sydney, Australia) 
Sydney celebrates contemporary art with a month-long festival of exhibitions, late night openings, free public talks, behind-the-scenes tours and special events. Galleries and venues across the city will take part in the event. Like LA Arts Month, Arts Month San Diego, and New York Gallery Week, Art Month Sydney aims to promote local galleries and artists.

Adelaide Festival (March 2-18, Adelaide, Australia) 
Heralded as Australia's largest multi-arts festival, the Adelaide Festival regularly attracts in excess of 650,000 attendees. 2012 marks the festival's change from a biennial to an annual event. This year the Adelaide Festival will feature close to 1000 local and international artists and 68 events spanning music, opera, cabaret, literature, dance, visual arts, forums and new media.

IEEE Electric Vehicle Conference (March 4-8, South Carolina USA)
Keynote speakers and researchers from the world's leading automakers and academic institutions are expected at the IEEE Electric Vehicle Conference, which will see conferences and the presentation of papers on everything from standardization to the increasing demand on the electricity grid. The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world's largest professional technology association.

Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibition (March 6-September 16, Paris, France)
Launching while the world's fashion elite are in the French capital for Paris Fashion Week, the Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibition at the city's museum of Arts Décoratifs will celebrate the fashion house's namesake and its current creative director by comparing and analyzing their achievements during very different time periods. 40th Baselworld (March 8 - 15, Basel, Switzerland)
Every Spring around 2000 companies from the watch, jewelry and precious-stone industries unveil the latest innovations at Baselworld, with the world's most prestigious brands such as Rolex, Chopard, Tissot, Patek Philippe and Bulgari exclusively displaying their collections. Some 100,000 visitors from the retail and wholesale market are expected to attend the 2012 expo.

16th L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (March 8-15,Melbourne, Australia) 
The L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, is unique in that it is public friendly -- the majority of the festival's fashion shows and events are open to the public and many of them are free to attend. The event features fashion from noted Australian brands Lisa Ho, Sass & Bide, Alex Perry and Scanlan & Theodore plus collections from up-and-coming Australian designers.

Voting opens for Saveur's Best Food Blog Awards (March 6, Online)
Beginning at 9 am EST, Saveur magazine will begin accepting nominations for the best food blogs across more than a dozen categories including best cooking, best photography and best culinary travel blog. Cirque du Soleil's 'Michael Jackson The Immortal'  (Through July 17, North America) 
Famed high-flying troupe Cirque du Soleil kicked off its tribute to the King of Pop in their own hometown of Montreal on October 2. The lavish dance-filled production is touring North America, and organizers announced that the show will tour the rest of the globe.

Drake Tour (February 14 - April 25, US, Europe)
Toronto-based rapper Drake is hitting the road in support of his sophomore album, Take Care. The "Headlines" MC will embark on what he's dubbed his 2012 Club Paradise Tour with MC Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky in supporting roles. The US leg kicks off on February 14 in Miami and wraps up March 11 in San Diego. So far, no dates for his Canadian home turf have been announced. On March 24, he kicks off the European leg in Dublin, and wraps up the tour on April 25 in Nottingham.

Death Cab for Cutie Tour (February 17 - June 7, worldwide) American indie band Death Cab for Cutie is set to launch a world tour in support of Grammy-nominated seventh studio album Codes and Keys. The tour kicks off in Perth, Australia, on February 17 for a two-night run at the Perth International Arts Festival. The alt-rockers will then tour cities in Australia and Asia before returning to North America on April 10 for a 22-city run. The band then heads to Barcelona on May 30, followed by a show in Porto, Portugal. More European summer festival dates are expected to be announced soon.

RBS Six Nations (February 4 - March 17) 
Six nations, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy compete in this annual Rugby union tournament. England were last year's winners, taking the crown from France who were victorious in 2010.

CeBIT 2012 (March 6-10, Hannover, Germany) 
CeBIT, with its 450,000 square meter exhibition space remains the largest digital, IT and telecommunications event in the world. This year's edition of CeBIT is subdivided into the following four sections -- CeBIT Pro, CeBIT Lab, CeBIT Life and CeBIT Gov. Of these categories CeBIT Life will focus on the latest smart home technologies, and ‘intelligent living' applications.

ITB Berlin (March 7-11, Berlin, Germany)
This international tourism show is one of the biggest of the year, with countries from all over the world pitching up to highlight what's on and what's new. This year will see an expanded travel technology area and discussions covering hot topics such as tourism following the Arab Spring and cruise line safety.
