Pet Owners' Independence Day

If your job is so easy a monkey could do it, there's a holiday just for you. On Pet Owners' Independence Day trade places with your cat or dog (sorry, monkeys). Spend the day cleaning yourself, eating and napping a lot and chasing random shadows and sounds around your yard. Your pet is supposed to go to work for you, according to Wellcat. Your pet may not be able to get to the office, buy you can certainly spend a day lazing around the house like your favorite pet.

Animal Crackers Birthday

Speaking of monkeys, April 18 is the day to celebrate animal crackers. In 1902 consumers went wild for animal crackers, thanks to the colorful packaging of Barnum's Animal Crackers by the National Biscuit Co. Animal-shaped cookies were a popular baked treat in the 1800, according to Food Timeline. But when the circus wagon box with the practical string came along, popularity of the holiday treat soared.

Although the brand uses the name of the well-known P.T. Barnum, Barnum had nothing to do with the cookies and has never earned any money from the cookies bearing his name. Cookies in the shapes of monkeys, giraffes, cougars, elephants, hippos, kangaroos and even farm animals like sheep have been found in the box.

Adult Autism Awareness Day

People living with autism face challenges in higher education, independent living and their careers according to the holiday's originator, AHEDD. The organization helps those with learning disabilities, high-functioning autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Non-Verbal Learning Disorder, and Attention Deficit Disorder. The organization "was developed in cooperation with Equal Opportunity Services of Carnegie Mellon University." It is "designed to address students' inherent social, communication, and organizational issues, and helps students develop individualized strategies to manage their college careers independently."
