Archos unveils a €99 kids-only tablet

The Archos Child Pad tablet

French personal device maker Archos has unveiled a tablet that is built just for kids.

While the Archos Child Pad might be targeted at the little ones in your family, it comes with a list of grown-up specs. The 7” tablet is equipped with the latest version of Google’s Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, and sports a 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.

“As a pioneer in the portable audio and Android tablet market we realize the importance of providing a tablet that can offer hours of entertainment for all ages, especially kids,” says Henri Crohas, Archos founder and CEO. “ARCHOS strives to offer great tablets with only the best of features at affordable prices and we expect this tablet to bring a smile to the faces of kids and parents everywhere.”

The tablet has a specially created kid-friendly user interface and connects to the AppsLip-powered Kids App Store which includes around 10,000 applications. It also ships with 28 pre-loaded games including Angry Birds, Pigs Rush and Flight Frenzy.

Educational toy maker LeapFrog released a $100 kid-friendly tablet in 2011 called LeapPad Explorer. The tablet was hugely popular and has since been named Educational Toy of the Year at New York’s Toy Fair.

The Archos Child Pad will be available in March for €99 ($129).
