Argentina Is Not Happy About Prince William's Deployment to the Falklands

Argentina Is Not Happy About Prince William's Deployment to the Falklands

The heir to the British throne, Prince William, also happens to be a helicopter pilot in the Royal Air Force -- which means that from time to time he must take part in actual military missions, even when they have a whiff of colonialism. Starting this evening, Prince William begins his six-week deployment to the Falklands Island, where he'll be one of four Royal Air Force pilots stationed at the UK's base there.

It's a bit surprising that the Britain's Air Force is sending its eventual king to an actual conflict area; The UK and Argentina (which calls the islands of its coast the Malvinas) each claim sovereignty there, having fought an undeclared war for control in 1982.  The Telegraph reports that tensions over the islands have been ratcheted up recently.

So while it's safe to presume given the headline-grabbing announcement of his deployment that the prince will be out of harm's way (Prince Harry's deployment to Iraq in 2007, if you recall, was canceled as too dangerous.), Argentina isn't happy about the colonial implications of foreign royalty occupying their territory. "The Argentinian people regret that the royal heir is coming to the soil of the homeland with the uniform of the conqueror and not with the wisdom of a statesman who works in the service of peace and dialogue between nations," the Argentinian government said in a statement according to CNN.

Need to do some fact checking. Not the first time this happened. Prince Andrew was there during the undeclared war in the same capacity. And he too was second in line for the throne at that point, if I remember correctly. And Harry's stint at the front line wasn't cancelled, but curtailed due to the media releasing news of him being at the front line.

If he's in the military he has to follow orders like every other person in the military, otherwise it's just a charade...He doesn't seem to me to be the sort who would want that..

Argentina, needs to grow up. And quit crying, and except things as They are. Stop living in the past.

I guess they do not know what losing a war means? Considering this country gave safe haven to a bunch of Nazi war criminals, it does not speak well for them and their contention that the Falklands are theirs.

It is high time that Argentina gets over it already! Those Islands have belonged to Great Britan for a long time and have never ever been under Argentinian rule!

Say what you will about the monarchy, the current crop seem to have inherited the Queen's sense of duty. Too bad her son is lacking the same.Must be the Mountbatten genes showing up. LOL.

We'd better not discuss your genes, shall we?

If the British had practiced colonialism the way the Spanish did, we would have no Native Americans alive today, no Indians in India, and basically anyone left alive in the countries occupied by the British Empire would all be whining half breeds speaking English. Fortunately, for all their many flaws, excesses and arrogance the British were never as vicious, callous or destructive as the mighty Spanish Empire.

Argentina should sink another 20 british warships....!! seems like the britons didn't learn the lesson from the Falklands War...!! technically speaking the UK lost that war, I mean losing 20 warships is a total defeat !!...that war was stopped by the Vatican, the Pope had to talk to the argentinian president. And the argentian president decided to obey the Holy Pope, because they are catholics.

Where in the world did you idiot get your history lessons? The Argentinian forces were trampled into the dust in a very short time and if they ever try to take over again, the entire country will pay dearly for it. But I have to grant them that they really have a big big mouth!

Argentina lost! Get over it already!

Not so. We fought a war and Argentina lost. Fortunately the British didn't nuke them back to the stone age as they so richly deserved. The Argies can moan and whine like little female dogs all they like. In the 450 years since the British discovered the unoccupied Falkland Islands, the Spanish have only been in possession for a massive total of just 60 years (1774 to 1833). They do not own the Falklands. English is the language of choice on the Falklands. And in any case, the Falklands are hundreds of miles from Argentina.

The U.S. was not involved in the Falklands War in any way, shape, or form. I don't know why people think we were. All President Reagan did was offer diplomatic support to Margaret Thatcher, and that was it.

this event happened 30 years ago... let past occurrences in the past.. and Argentina should concentrate on the present times.. Thats like Mexico whining about hier loss to the US and they lost much more land then the falklands. BUt they have other matters to content with then re open old wounds. We have goten along with them off and on as should Argentina and Britan.

Well, guess what? I'm definitely not happy about the average Argentinian going around being an hazzholeh because he is arrogant and thinks that Argentinians are God's gift to Humanity. However, I don't go around advertising that fact, do I? The Argentinians need to put a sock in it and concentrate on their own internal affairs, which have NOTHING to do with the Falkland Islands or with whatever Prince William chooses to do.

Argentina wants to colonize islands, that are and have been British for very many years, and where the people on the islands themselves don't want anything to do with Argentina and want to remain with Britain. Any argument that this is anything but a wish to colonize and subjugate, can not be valid, since Argentina cannot claim they want to "free" the islands. "Liberating" is about setting people free, not bringing them under your heel against their will.
