Argentina to open museum dedicated to Falklands

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — President Cristina Fernandez says a new museum dedicated to the Falklands Islands will honor Argentine marines killed trying to reclaim them from Britain 30 years ago.

Fernandez announced details of the $20 million museum on Monday. She said it would honor the more than 300 marines killed in the sinking of the warship Belgrano.

Diplomatic and commercial tensions are rising over the disputed islands, which Argentina calls the Malvinas, as next month's anniversary of the two countries' brief war over them approaches.

Fernandez said the museum would be in the former navy school that served as a detention and torture center during Argentina's 1976-1983 military dictatorship. She said its inauguration was set for August 2013.
