What to Do Around Philadelphia This Weekend: March 8-10, 2013

Here's a rundown of the events going on this weekend, March 8-10, in and around Philadelphia, including sports, family-friendly events, high fashion, and more. Take your pick -- it's a busy weekend!

    Greater Philadelphia Boat Show

    Friday, March 8, 12 p.m.-8 p.m.; Saturday, March 9, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday, March 10, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

    100 Station Ave., Oaks, PA

    Adults $9, youth (age 13 - 17) $2, children under age 12 free

As this is touted as the Philadelphia region's only boat show, then is the event to go to if you're in the market -- or even just browsing -- for the latest offerings in recreational boating. Active members of the military, police, fire, and EMS receive one free admission-- just show a valid ID at the will call office.

    Oaks Gun Show

    Friday, March 8, 3 p.m.-8 p.m.; Saturday, March 9, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday, March 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

100 Station Ave., Oaks, PA, 19456

    $10

Over 1,200 tables of weapons -- guns, rifles, shotguns, handguns, antique firearms, hunting knives, ammunition, military surplus, and more -- will be on hand. If you're thinking about stocking up in case of an impending zombie apocalypse, this is the event to head to.

    Harlem Globetrotters World Tour

    Friday, March 8, 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 9, 1 p.m.

    Wells Fargo Center

    3601 S. Broad St., Philadelphia

    From $21

This is the first of two venues in Philadelphia that the Globetrotters will be appearing at this weekend. See the details for the second venue below. On this tour, the Globetrotters are letting the fans vote on the wackiest rule to be used in the game. Fans can choose and vote on one of several wacky rules -- the one with the most votes will be used in the game.

    Dropkick Murphys

    Friday-Saturday, March 8-9, 8:30 p.m.

    The Electric Factory

    421 N. Seventh St., Philadelphia

    $29.50, plus fees

Get ready for St. Patrick's Day next weekend with two nights of Celtic punk group Dropkick Murphys. The band released "Signed and Sealed in Blood" in January.

    Rescued on the Runway

    Saturday, March 9, 7 p.m.-10 p.m.

    Community Arts Center

414 Plush Mill Rd, Wallingford, PA

    $75

This is one of the most critical annual charitable events that supports the Delaware County SPCA in their mission to save homeless animals and ongoing life-saving programs. Enjoy an evening of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a prize raffle, a silent auction, and, of course, a fashion show featuring many of the clothing lines from stores of the Philadelphia Premium Outlets. Celebrities such as WMGK's Debbi Calton, a former Miss Delaware, a Philly Ballgirl, and others will be on hand, many modeling the latest looks. And Precious, the starved dog brought back from the brink of death, will be there, as well. For tickets, call 610-566-1370, ext. 231.

Temple Men's Basketball vs. Virginia Commonwealth University

    Sunday, March 10, 12 p.m.

    Liacouras Center

    1776 N. Broad St., Philadelphia

    From $12

This is the first of two great events on Sunday at the Liacouras Center. Start out with the Temple Owls going head to head against VCU. Doors open at 11 a.m., with the game starting at 12 p.m. Allow approximately $14 for parking.

    Harlem Globetrotters World Tour

    Sunday, March 10, 5 p.m.

    Liacouras Center

    1776 N. Broad St., Philadelphia

    From $17

The Globetrotters are appearing at a second venue in the same city on the same weekend. Why? The Liacouras Center, being a smaller venue than the Wells Fargo Center, allows fans a unique opportunity. Here's a chance to see the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters and possibly even score some autographs, because after the game, the stars will remain on court for autographs and photographs.

    Philadelphia Flyers vs. Buffalo Sabres

    Sunday, March 10, 7:30 p.m.

    Wells Fargo Center

    3601 S. Broad St., Philadelphia

    From $83

The Flyers had a rough start this season, but they continue to work on improving their game. Don't forget to support them!

WASHINGTON -- The one thing no one has suspected Dzhokhar Tsarnaev of being is a closet essayist. Lying helplessly in the landlocked boat he was hiding inside of, in the small Massachusetts town outside Boston where they had fled, he wrote several primitive but revealing thoughts on the hull of the bullet-pocked boat with a pen he found. ...
