    Artist Nabil Mousa Hosts Judgment Day 9/11 Public Art Event

    Judgment Day, endeavors to cut through the prejudices and misconceptions that continue to plague the post-9/11 world. The hope is to challenge Americans of all ancestries and nationalities to open their hearts and minds, and come together through this work.

    Arab-American visual artist Nabil Mousa is holding an open house for his visual-art-for-social-change campaign surrounding his latest body of work entitled "Judgment Day 911”. The mural, being constructed at the Studio #16 space inside of the Mattress Factory Lofts, 300 Martin Luther King Jr. SE Atlanta, GA 30312, serves as a social tablet of free expression. The mural will be comprised of nine wooden panels, interlocking to create 10ft x 50ft length wall with a culmination of religious symbols, imagery of the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center, as well as a collage of excerpts from the Qur’an, Bible and Torah.

    From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 25, 2012, the public is invited to work creatively along-side of Mousa and post memorabilia,news articles,photographs and handwritten thoughts expressing emotions surrounding the 9/11 attacks and the Iraq War.

    The collaboration will encourage healthy conversation, community oneness and to take steps towards the eradication of racism, discrimination, and social injustice inflicted after the 2001 September 11th attacks.

    ABOUT THE “JUDGMENT DAY 911” MURAL:

    The “Judgment Day 911” title evolved from misconstrued judgment, racism, discrimination and social injustice intensified within the Arab-American community post the 9/11 attacks. Mousa’s goal is human understanding. “By sharing our stories, our feelings, our beliefs—and by reading the stories, feelings, and beliefs of others—it is my hope we can foster a better understanding of our diverse cultures and promote a genuine healing,” says Mousa. “By freely understanding the breadth of perspectives and individual talents of a diverse people, this mural project can create an atmosphere of limitless possibilities. I know we are more alike than we are dissimilar.”

    Upon completion of the mural, there are plans of exhibiting the project in Washington, DC, Los Angles, CA, San Francisco, CA, Dear Born, MI, New York, NY and Chicago, IL. Post travel, it will be installed in Atlanta, Georgia.

    ABOUT NABIL MOUSA:

    Visual Artist, Nabil Mousa is a native of Syria, who came to the United States in 1978 at age twelve. His large-scaled works blend the traditions of Middle Eastern motifs with contemporary design and show strong color, texture and unique composition. Often used as an outlet of expression for his deep feelings surrounding justice and civil rights, he creates art that is political, educational, thought-provoking, and sometimes, controversial. He is collected privately and has been commissioned by GLAAD, New York, The Alif Institute, Atlanta and The Buckhead Club, Atlanta.
