Asus G75VW heralds the coming of ’5G Wi-Fi’

Mobile fans had better get ready, because there’s yet another wireless buzzword coming down the pipeline. As The Verge’s Jeff Blagdon reports, the new Asus G75VW gaming laptop is being billed as the first-ever laptop to come equipped with 802.11ac connectivity, otherwise known as “5G Wi-Fi” technology that’s capable of delivering theoretical peak speeds of 1.3Gbps. Yes, it’s somewhat annoying having another “G” in the mix when talking about wireless technology but 802.11ac is actually the fifth generation of Wi-Fi standards so it’s not as though 5G Wi-Fi chip maker Broadcom is throwing numbers around willy-nilly. Broadcom just started releasing 802.11ac systems on a chip this week so it’s not surprising that the first 802.11ac laptop isn’t far behind.
