Atlas undefeated in Mexico, America retains lead

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Arturo Gonzalez scored in the 55th minute as Atlas defeated Pumas 1-0 Sunday to remain undefeated after the fourth round of Mexico's first division, while America retained its 100 percent record and the league lead with a 2-0 victory against Tigres.

America is two points ahead of Atlas, with Queretaro a point back in third after its 3-2 win over Santos Laguna on Saturday.

In other weekend matches, Monterrey lost 2-1 to Veracruz, Chiapas defeated Leon 3-2, Pachuca won 3-0 against Chivas, Cruz Azul overcame Puebla 1-0, Morelia drew 0-0 with Tijuana and Leones Negros drew 0-0 against Toluca.

Mexico international Oribe Peralta opened the scoring for America on Saturday from a tight angle in the 22nd, with Miguel Layun finishing the second in the 62nd after a counter-attack.

William da Silva netted the winner for Queretaro three minutes before the final whistle.

Santos Laguna's Djaniny Tavares opened the scoring before goals, but Camilo Sanvezzo and Emilio Lopez put Queretaro into the lead before Javier Orozco equalized in the 65th.

Edgar Andrade and Daniel Villalba scored in the last 12 minutes, as Veracruz came from behind against Monterrey, which had gone ahead through Dorlan Pabon in the 6th.

Bruno Pires, Emiliano Armenteros and Franco Arizala all scored in the second half for Chiapas, which went in at halftime 2-0 down, with Leon's goals coming via Carlos Pena and Mauro Boselli.

A goal either side in each half for Ariel Nahuelpan put Pachuca 2-0 up against Chivas, with Hirving Lozano netting the third in second half injury time.

An own goal from Michael Orozco in the 31st handed Cruz Azul the points, with U.S. international Orozco then sent off for raising his hand in the 60th.
