    'Mastering the Art of French Cooking' celebrates 50 years.

    This week we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” Child, the food icon responsible for bringing classic French food into our homes with her cookbook, is one of the best-known names in food. She is loved and respected around the world for her work, and many chefs credit her for inspiring them to pursue cooking.

    A frequent face on “Good Morning America,” Child was adored by news anchors and audiences alike. Watching the video below, you can see how much everyone loved and appreciated her accomplishments. From traveling around the world to preparing a simple omelet, Julia Child brought gourmet food into American kitchens.

  • Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too: It’s National Dessert Day

    I don’t really need a reason to eat dessert. (What!? Brownies aren’t breakfast?)

    But since today is National Dessert Day, now I have another reason.

    Clearly the best part of any meal, dessert comes in many forms. Cakes, puddings, ice creams, pies: they all are items that we consider dessert. Even if you are inept in the kitchen, throw some whipped cream on strawberries and you have – you guessed it – dessert.

    Some pastry chefs have blurred the lines a bit, by adding unexpected twists like black pepper ice cream or tarragon crème brulee.  These savory elements appeal to those who prefer something a bit less on the sweet side.
