• Nigel Lythgoe Reveals ‘American Idol’s’ Biggest Marketing Mistake

After Nigel Lythgoe confirmed via Twitter over the weekend that Fox had fired him as executive producer of “American Idol” after 12 seasons, he is now ready to talk about the show and what could have been done differently. “Omg! Insider” correspondent and “The Yo Show” host Michael Yo caught up with Lythgoe on the red carpet at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards Monday night, where he compared his gig on idol to that of someone in a very different industry: “I guess it’s a bit like being a basketball coach. If the team doesn’t play well, the coach gets fired.” He also had a lot to say when it came to the specific demographic the reality singing competition show is aiming for, “The biggest mistake, I think, that we’ve all sort of gone along with is trying to make the program younger. It isn’t that program. We have the broadest stroke of the brush with the demographics.” Check out this vid to see what else the Lythgoe had to say about getting the ax from the hit singing show. Continue reading →
